Just a few comments on humor,

Study people, they are endlessly amusing.
Teach yourself to see the obvious.

The soul of a joke is the paradigm shift. That moment when our view changes, usually to reveal mammoth stupidity.

The shift revolves around the punch line, the punch line contains a punch word. That word needs to be as close to the jokes end as possible.

Brevity is the soul of wit. Timing is everything.

Practice jokes on your friends first.

Don't just watch comedians, study them.
Analyze jokes, don't just laugh.

Many clubs and coffee shops have armature nite.
Make a video of yourself and post it on You-Tube..

Have fun

I can stand up and I'm quite funny...

Advice, well to start with you have to be naturally funny, the best stand ups don't have to try to hard, the second part is to find new material, there is no point copying the work of other stand ups. Then find a venue, search local amature competitions and open mike nights.

Practise your material on honest friends and family, there is no point in being told you're good if you're going to get heckled off stage.

Practise and keep in mind funny retorts for the hecklers. Develop a thick skin to shrug off the odd 'bad' person in the audience that is willing to upstage you for a few quick laughs from his/her mates.

Involve the audience in your jokes and gaffs, watch DVDs of the well known stand up and instead of watching, take notes of their stage presence, how they use the stage, how they use the audience, what type of jokes get the best laughs in your geographical area, stage props, lightening..... so on and so forth.

Make sure you know how long your set is and plan everything down to the second, practise, practise and practise again, timing is everything. Always have a theme, and a back up theme, for the times your initial idea doesn't go down as well as you'd hoped.

There are lots of comedy groups and societies out there you may want to make yourself familiar with. Also the Amature Dramatics society may be a good place to start to get a better idea of voice projection and stage presence, you have to develop and create a character that is different to the person you are and the life you live daily.

I hope this helps.
