The ease and speed at which a puppy is trained to urinate and defecate outside depends on how good the owner is at teaching the pup what is required.
This involves anticipating the pups needs, observing the signs that indicate that it needs to 'go', taking it outside frequently and having the required patience, perseverance, commitment and consistency.
Just like human children some pups learn quicker than others but if the owner doesn't know how to teach this basic requirement it will take longer. Many pups get to a point where they seem to be afraid to eliminate in front of their owners even if they are outside because they have been so traumatised by harsh and punitive house breaking methods.
Any dog whether large or small can learn to be clean although some breeds are quicker on the uptake. However the difference in the breeds is unimportant compared to the need for kind, effective training. A bright, intelligent pup might take much longer to train if the wrong method is used whereas a slower pup could be trained quickly by the right owner.

Many local rescue groups will have small dogs that are already house broken. I would consider that an easy housebreak.
Go to www.petfinder.com and you can search by your city or zip code. That will hook you up with local shelters and rescue groups. Many of these groups will have dogs in foster homes, so they're already used to people and are housebroken.
Plus, you'll feel good about yourself for not supporting an industry that abandons millions of dogs each year by going to a store or breeder.

size and breed make no difference, i have border collie 4yrs and shitzu 10mths, first thing in the morning put the pup out to go, then a couple times throughout the day especially after meals, then again before you go to bed,in the evening we would put newspaper down for the pup if he needed to go, but after a couple of weeks the paper was always dry.

If youv'e a strong mind, and won't let the dog dominate you,
you can train any dog with ease.
If your after a smallist type dog, short hair, try a Basenji.
They don't bark {but can be noisy if they want}
