Due to an accident a few layers of my skin peeled and I'm trying to heal it up as quickly as possible. What works?. I've got Antibiotic cream and a mixture of honey/lemon but some places say you should keep such woulds dry and covered whereas others say to use natural remedies such as the above.

Any help would be much appreciated!

First thing is it needs to be cleaned very well, especially if it's road rash. I mean a scrub brush if there is gravel or dirt in it. Not a hard bristled brush; in ER we use a soft nylon bristled brush with a sponge on the other side, which is impregnated with betadine (povodone iodine). These work wonders, but what ever you need to get it clean. I'd try the sponge first though with betadine/peroxide 50/50, or soap and water. After it's clean, I'd keep it covered with an antibiotic ointment for the first couple days. If you find the bandage stuck to the wound soak in a bath. After a couple days, I'd leave it open but keep applying antibiotic ointment and watch for infection. Reddening/ swelling /warmer than normal, and drainage are the signs to look for. These are quite prone to infection. Be careful!

I just clean these kinds of wounds very well, and let them heal while exposed to air. Unless you absolutely have to keep a bandage on it(public situations), don't bother. If it stays dry, it will heal faster. Also, a little duct tape and a piece of a plastic bag keeps water out when showering.

Owwww ow ow ow ow ow! Ouchy ouchy! Dar god that must hurt! I personally would use the triple antibiotic. I have always had really great success using it on cuts and scrapes. Plus it reduces the chance of infection, and it can take care of an infection as well! I heard to keep it moist so as to reduce chances or scarring.

I would start taking mega-doses of Vitamin E. It is also good directly on the wound. Bite a little hole in the capsule, and squeeze oil onto wound. Vitamin E is good for "tissue" inside and out !

cover it up during day and cover at night you want it to stay dry due to the scab will stick to anything if wet and you cover it up to keep dirt and stuff out but un cover it to help air it out to dry. PS dont let dog lick it lol

I've had good luck cutting open Vitamin E capsules and using the contents as a cream.

Hope that helps!
