Is it true that people with hyperthyroidism have difficulty gaining weight, and that people with hypothyroidism have difficulty losing weight, despite being on the correct medication?

To clarify, the question is: even when taking the correct medication, is it true that people with thyroid disorders STILL have difficulty losing or gaining weight? Or should the medication actually eliminate all symptoms of hyper- or hypothyroidism?

People who are hyperthyroid have increased thyroid hormone. This creates a hypermetabolic state. The patient will lose weight despite eating a lot, have tremors, proptosed (popping out) eyes, heat intolerance, tachycardia (fast heartbeat). On the other hanh, a hypothyroid person has deficient thyroid hormones. As such, the reverse of hyperthyroid symptoms are expected.

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that sits low on the front of the neck. Your thyroid lies below your Adam’s apple, along the front of the windpipe. The thyroid has two side lobes, connected by a bridge (isthmus) in the middle. When the thyroid is its normal size, you’re unlikely to be able to feel it.
All types of hyperthyroidism are due to overproduction of thyroid hormones, but the condition can develop in several ways.
Thyroid hormone production can be suppressed or halted completely in these ways: https://tr.im/gLIxf

As I understand it - if your thryoid is sluggish you will have trouble keeping your weight down and gain weight very easily. If your thryoid is over active you will have the opposite problem, you will have trouble keeping weight on.

If you are experiencing either problem, you should definitely consult a physican as you might need medication.
