Hey there, I'm from Auckland and am flying to Aus in December for a concert. I need to go to Perth, but I have plenty of time and was wondering if it might be cheaper to fly to Adelaide or something, and then bus to Perth. Is this a really silly idea? Return flights from Auck-Perth are over $1000 so I'm trying to figure out the cheapest option! Does anyone have any info on good bus rates?

Are you flying Air NZ? Wow, that is expensive.

Try Virgin - or across the Tasman they are called Fly Pacific Blue (still is Virgin though) http://www.flypacificblue.com They also have happy-hour deals as lunch time.. check with your time zone.

Anyhow - generally in Aussie flying is cheaper, and of course hell of a lot quicker. But if you have time up your sleeve, bus or train.

For Train:
go to http://www.gsr.com.au/our-trains/indian-pacific/the-journey.php?gsr=dcec633453dd1d776720b9032...
ADELAIDE TO PERTH (or v.v.) - 2659KM - Approx 41.0 HRS Twice weekly in both directions.

For Bus:
go to http://www.greyhound.com.au
to see your options and prices ....
Have a great trip

to go by bus or train across the nullarbar (4-5 days by bus) is so boring!!!! i'd rather spend the time enjoying myself sight seeing in perth. sometimes cheapest isn't the best experience.
