Just a quick question. I have a younger sister (she is 16) that comes over to my apartment a lot (im 23) and i own a lot of dvds and she saw American History X (one of my favorites) and wants to watch it tomorrow. I know there is a lot of cussing and violence, and i told her that..and she seemed like she has seen other movies like that so to her its no big deal...but now i remeber that it has full frontal nudity of one of the male charactors, and i know that she has never seen that before...so even if she seems ok,should i let her watch it?Please no mean remarks.

Your sister is likely at her age to see it soon somewhere, if she hasn't already. American History X is a great movie, much better than many alternatives she could see something like that in. Go with your gut, you be the judge of how mature your sister is.

At 16 she's too young to see that movie, not because of the nudity but because of the subject matter and the extreme violence. Its a good movie but she's too young for it now. She's going to tell you what you want to hear so she will get her way. You are an adult now, and this is your home and you need to be the parent in your parents absence. Take her out and rent something more appropriate or simply give her some other choices and "lose" that one, until she's 18. You are her older sibling, you have a responsibility to protect her.

I don't think you should. That movie has a level of violence that she probably hasn't considered. I watched it as an adult and I still wish I'd never seen that opening scene where he kicks the guys head into the curb. You'd have to talk with your parents or her about the nudity. Personally, I think that's probably better left out as well. It's a whole different story to watch a violent fictional movie about monsters and so on than it is to watch social violence that could actually and may happen. It's easier to separate the "monsters" movies, but the socially violent ones can really stick with you.

She's 16, she's at an age where she's going to be curious about sex, plus it's cool at that age to watch R rated movies.
Ask her what other films of a similar kind she has seen, if she's seen a few and doesn't seem phased by it then she should be mature enough to handle this one, if she hasn't seen many then suggest watching another one which isn't as bad and promise her that you'll watch that one when she's 18.

Follow your instinct; if you feel like it might be uncomfortable for her to see that scene, don't let her watch it. Or let her watch the movie, just fast-forward that part--or better yet, tell her to go make popcorn when that part's coming up.

I used to watch movies with a friend back home. His mom would often be there watching the movies with us. Sometimes there would be nudity scenes and after a while she would say, "Ok, I'm going to make coffee," so she wouldn't have to watch those scenes with us.

One day we were watching a movie. I wanted coffee and I asked my friend's mom if there was any coffee left. She said no. I asked her if she was going to make any, and she said no. So I told my friend, "Hey, rewind it to that dirty part," and his mom laughed because she knew what I was thinking.

She'll be fine. A lot of girls have seen nudity around the 6th grade in sex-ed. It'll be tasteful and isn't a porno so it shouldn't be a problem. By the age of 16 most people are immune to violence like that. If she were 10 or younger, it'd be another story.

Yes, you may. Perhaps its a part of sex education to adolescent. Well after your sister viewed the movie/film tell her strictly not to do such things as she had watched. Normally, she will become curious which may leads to experimentation. On the other hand do not let your sister view it if she is a kind of flirt girl you know if she is........

At any rate, I believe that at the age of your sister she is open to such things as my experience. And I do believe that she has watched already rated films... Join her....

ask your mum or dad... i know that sounds like a very childish thing to do but your parents still have an opinion over your sister. that is what i would do
