for those who don't know what they are, they are basically waffles, but instead of square "dimples", they are inverse oval shapes like eggs. These are very popular snacks in Hong Kong

Umm. Try Hongkong ? I have never seen them. but the resulting product as you describe them sounds delicious.

When my sister visit me in Hong Kong in 1970s, she brought two of the machine, actually they made of cast iron and cost very expensive. The egg puff/eggette snack is originate from Macau then to Hong Kong, so I am sure you can buy them from there, but mind you the recipe of the batter is very tricky and take a ton of skill to have both side of the waffle cook perfectly.

Since they appear to be popular in Hong Kong it would seem logical to try there. No good trying to find the thing in a place where no-one has ever heard of it :-)
