I find that a better thing to use is a bath towel,(or a hand towel,depending on the size of the dog) Fold it,lengthwise,until it's about 4 inches wide,then wrap it around the dog's neck and secure it with safety pins or duct tape.The dog won't be able to reach back there to lick,but he will be able to see,eat and drink normally.Or,you could just see how he does without any collar at all.

Not to worry, call to check with the vet when i can be removed.
My dogs didn't have the collar on after operation. Depends on vet and also if the dog licks the wound. If they need to have it on, it has to be on to avoid complications from licking wound.
Make sure they can still drink water and eat properly, if not, you will have to hold the bowl up once a while during the day to see if she needs water without removing the collar.

Just went through that with my dog.
We took the collar off for him to eat. We elevated the water so he could get at it.
He wore the collar for about a week. I wouldn't say he ever got used to it, but he sure did figure out it was fun to ram into things.
I wouldn't stress out too much over it. After a few hours of not having it on, once he's healed up, he will have no memory of it.

Yes.
My dogs did the same thing when they first had one on (after they were neutered). I tried to accomadate them for those days by using water and food bowls that sat higher up, so it was easier for them to eat. He'll adjust, and be back to his old self in no time. :)
However, be careful that he doesn't get ahold of the collar and start chewing on it. My Shepherd went through 3 of them. He's very smart, what can I say. -____-;;

If he is having difficulty in eating and drinking, remove the collar for just the time he eats and drinks, but dont leave him alone, he just might pull his stitches out.
Once his done then you can place it back onto him, it will only be for 7days, dont worry to much. Im suprized they gave you that collar, my yorkie was spayed and had stitches and I had no problems with her, I guess each dog is different.
All the best.

if he has troubles with eating and drinking you can remove it so he can do that.... but do not leave him unsupervised without it on. its just a temporary nuscience but will save him so much more pain in the long run.

You can take it off as long as you are there to supervise.
Go with that and your pup will be ok.
