The battery ran down on my Hp laptop and three hours later, turned it back on and it was gone..all those files plus all my pictures and music.. I did searchs for them and found nothing. I looked in the recycle bin and they weren't there either. Has anyone had this problem or knows how to locate my old desktop and missing files and folders? (I have symantec 360. I am the only who had access to this laptop.)

Look under C:\Documents and Settings\ search every profile you find. If they're not there then they're gone.

If you have XP do a system restore. Go to start, all programs, accessories, System tools, and system restore. Then select restore my computer to an ealier time and from the calendar that will appear select a day that you think you had those files. Follow the onscreen instructions, your computer will turn off by itself to perform the task.

If you have several accounts on that computer, make sure that you log on into the right account.
Hopes it helps you.

sounds to me someone had access this computer. when a battery is run down, it will still hold those files in there for a short period of time(estimate of 20min). when you recharge or turn it back on, then your files should be there.
