I feel so bad, I lost my temper and I said some things that I really regret. The he yelled at me and got in my face. Has anyone else fought with their child? How did you make it better afterwards?

You never stop being the parent. You screwed up and lost control. It happens and its not the end of the world. Apologize and give him some space. However, if there is a reason for your anger and the things you said are true (like he's old enough to support himself, for instance), then don't apologize for the truth, just apologize for the delivery. Don't be desperate to fix things, its a normal mom thing to want to do that. Think about what made you so angry and see if there is any validity to it and then stick to your guns.

Parents need to figure out that when talking with their children, even their adult children, the playing field is never level. You are the authority figure and what you says to them cuts deep.

You hurt him and he reacted by doing what he was taught by you...yelled back.

If you regret what you said...call him and apologize, then maybe you won't feel so bad and you can make him feel better too.

Been there and if you two are truly close as I am to my children, they will be cooling off as you are.
They will phone or come back to you in no time!
We usually start crying, then hug, then put the coffee pot on and talk, cry, laugh, all is better.
Cheer up, a parent & child's true love is never missed or let un said. They will follow thier heart . ;-)
