Walk it off if you can. Slowly stretch it out. I don't know if you can drink milk or not but have a glass. Sometimes dehydration can cause cramping indirectly by the loss of needed 'salts' that control contraction of muscles; sodium (salt), potassium, magnesium, and calcium are needed. Drink some gatorade or powerade to replace the lost chemicals.

I always have lower calves cramps,
since I started stretching my lower calves it seems its
gone, & haven't had any cramps since then.
just sit up straight on a chair, straighten up 1 feet counting
up to10 push or pull you heel, do this every 2nd day.
*1st week it will be muscle pain, then later you'll get
use to it.
try it out it works.
I don't know how far its true, that January born always
has cool problem.

It happens because there is a abundance of lactic acid, lactic acid is the product of anerobic respiration which is like, exercising without taking in enough oxygen.. lactic acid is produced into small place of your muscles, it causes muscle aches and tireness.. but when you stretch your leg muscles where the lactic acid is still stored there, you will release it causing extreme pain to the muscles there. When you're sleeping you are possibly not taking enough oxygen causing lactic acid to be produced, here's a tip, sleep a different position, have better ventilation, and don't stretch until you have a few breaths of clearer and better air.
