I think, these books are called unit history. My grandfather had one about the battles he was in. It mentions the names of the men in that unit,company or regiment that fought in the battles they were in. I believe this type of book was written for those men and their families. I don't think they did it for the other wars.Please help me if you can. I APPRECIATE IT.

They are unit histories, and they exist for units in basically every war since the beginning of recorded history, and I’m sure there are some being written right now for current military operations. They were a very common and rather extravagant publication after WWI containing many photos’s, sketches and decorative art work on the pages. A simple internet search will produce many results for what ever unit you be looking for.

They are called unit history, I have my grandfathers from 1898, The Spanish - American War.
