My fiance and I are trying to set a wedding date for next summer but we are running into trouble with his family and family friend's wedding. One of his childhood friends, who is important to his family, but he rarely talks to any more, set her date for the day we had our hearts set on and the only day we can get the location we really want. We only found out she set her date after we had tentatively set our date and I really don't want to give our date up since it works well with our busy professional schedules (earlier or later would be a nightmare since we both travel internationally), but I also don't want to be rude and offend his family. My main concern is that it will be extremely difficult to start from square one of planning again, and I don't want to wait until an entire year later just to please his family. Help!

Do what is right for you, don't give up too much because of other people

Are they in the same town?

One of our oldest childhood friends married on the same day as I did. It wasn't on purpose or anything, we just didn't know about the other person's plans. I wasn't able to go to hers, but my mom and sisters went to her 1:00 wedding and then came home ready to finish setting up and getting ready for my wedding at 5:00.

Most people I know would consider this to be a sad coincidence, but would not be offended or angry, unless it was a close relative, and there were more than tenative plans involved.

Set a date that suits you. You will never keep everyone happy and if you keep putting it off to suit other people you guys will probably never end up being married.
Just set a date and I know the people that matter will do all they can to be there. Good luck!
Oh and maybe you could consider a sunday wedding? Or friday evening?

go with the date and location you want
i would hope that your family will attend yours and not that of a friend who has distanced themself from the family...
they can send a card wishing blessings and a gift...
if you and your fiance can't work out a different date and it's best for you both.. his family should understand.
you aren't being rude at all.

set the date for when you want, if you keep going around when others can make it, you'll never get married. Don't pick a different date just because so & so can't make it. Do what's best for your schedule, not for others

The only reason to move the date is if it would be impossible for immediate family not to attend, don't sweat a friend that "he rarely talks to"

It is YOUR day. If his family can't choose between family and friends, then they don't deserve to be there anyway. You have to remember, you are the bride, if everyone wants to see you get married to the man you love, they will plan accordingly! Good Luck and Congrats!!

don't change your date. On your wedding day, night, honeymoon, the only people who matter in the entire world are you 2.
