Not sure they do, mine seem indifferent to them, they sit on my herbs the same as all my garden plants.
The real question should be: Why do cats like to lick emery boards ( for your fingernails)?
OR
why do cats pluck toilet rolls like they are plucking a chicken?
Oh I'm gonna ask them!!

Cats will act funny and spry with any type of different smell that stimulated their nostrils. They have two sets of nostrils, the second being under their upper lip and that is why they often have their mouth open and their head in the air, to smell something. However, chives are a member of the onion family and are poisonous to cats and dogs so I wouldn't let your cats smell them or be around them because they could have an adverse reaction to them.

Thats wierd. Only research taht came up for cats and chives is a poisoning taht can be caused from cats or dogs eating chives/onion type foods but obviously u font need 2 worry about that. u just got a wierd cat : ) which is completely normal.
I got the image in my head similar to the febreeze comercials

Oh wow, did not know chives was poisonous to cats. Whenever I ordered Thai Food, only Thai food, my cat would go nutty following me around and crying. I believe Thai food has a substantial amount of chives so I guess that is something to be aware of. No Thai food or fully loaded baked potato treats for Kitty!! Many kitties eat weird things that taste good and we may think it's cute, guess we must keep ourselves informed what those foods are!
