I do belive I am colorblind. How many careers in the USCG are there that do not matter if you are colorblind? For enlisted.
Also is there a career in the USCG that involves driving smaller watercraft? That's what I would like to do. I could not find any on the list for enlisted career options I saw.
Thanks

They may not let you in at all.... of course now with the war, they aren't as picky... but I dunno about driving watercraft, if you "believe" you're colorblind. Shouldn't you know?

The Coast Guard is part of the ICE and DEA federal departments. Speaking a foreign language is always a plus but make sure you know English well also. You can be assigned to the Gulf Coast as Galveston or the Keyes of Florida. Both are remarkably good locations for Coast Guard careers. If you make it your career, I understand that you tend to stay in locations wherein the skills you have learned are needed. That means, if you are in warm waters, you may not be sent to the Pacific Northwest or Alaska or the Great Lakes. And, I salute your service, in advance. Thank you! To the retired member of the USCG, I salute your service also. I am NOT an idiot.

with colorblindness, most jobs involving electronics will be closed to you. and if you really are red/green deficient, some of the basic seamanship ones as well.. they use red and green lights on the ships, and if you can't tell which way she's pointing.....
if you go to About.com and look at their rating descriptions, they will tell you which ones require normal color vision.

Here's a suggestion. Contact the Coast Guard. I'm sure they have recruiters. IF they take you, I'm sure it won't effect you more than anywhere else in life.

give it up.....any career in the military or in aviation requires the need to tell colors......and don't try to fake it....people's lives, inlcuding your own, will depend on your ability to distinguish these colors. sorry bout that, but it kept me out too.....

Ask yourself, could this cost the life of someone?
