Who knows, no one knows.

That is for us to find out when we die

And I don't trust any writing that describe death because you have to really die to know what on the other side. Did the people who wrote about it die? nope, so.....

For me, there is no answer, just possibilities.

When I die, I will know. Whether it's an endless cycle to enlightenment, a paradise, eternal damnation, or the end of the line, they are all equally possible when it comes to death.

If I were to choose the one that I think is most likely, then it's just complete nothingness, but according to people who have temporarily experienced death, they all seem consistent on a thing about how everything seems bright, as if you were dreaming.

To put it simply, I just don't know.
I think it would be nice if I can dream forever though.

Well, there are different sets of atheists ...... other then the fact all does not believe in supreme beings, you can get 10 different answers from 10 different atheists.

For personal view, I think the consciences will be redirected into another body, since energy of form will not be destroyed but converted into another form. But that would be me. I have no proof of it, therefore I do not make it a "biblical fact" LOL......

No hell, no heaven - whatever we are made of which is matter goes back to become part of everything else. As Buddhist I can't even believe in re-incarnation. In life we have all the time we'd like to make up this God, that God, the one and only GOD with different names which so many religious wars have been fought for, because man is so darn insecure of his existence, that he creates for his safety, his guarantee of reward, his very allegiance to a parental figure he alone invents - then tries to push down every one else's throat! And that is why atheists get so disturbed at this intrusion. Save the "being saved and life ever lasting (IF) you believe in B.P. (Big Poppa!) up in the
sky nonsense for yourselves, AND please stop trying to save, so that you feel more secure while HERE dear theists, for those who can't take what we feel is life, through our corporeal stage, Alone! Don't try to save us, because you are so afraid, that you believe that in strength through numbers you'll get to the place of reward or in fear, a place of punishment. Let us fend for ourselves, hey? We don't bother you!

Our bodies rot, breaking down into simpler mineral compounds, which are then fed on by lower life forms.

If you're looking for a meta-physical answer, you're going to be waiting for awhile. Death is the end.

Oh no, not ANOTHER question for atheist... (not "atheists?")

Who said anything happens to us after death? Besides numerous mutually exclusive religions, that is...

That first person perspective we call a consciousness will transend. It's the most real attribute of any being and the only thing that each one of us truely holds for his or herself. While memories, dreams, beliefs, teachings, experiences, perceptions and expectations vanish or show flaws, consciousness stays with each one of us. It is us.

Hell as translated in the bible is the grave in all but one instance when it is translated from the Greek gehenna. In that instance it had nothing to do with human torture. So, you lay in the grave and rot. That's all.

We get to go on an ocean cruise to Tahiti.

Dead is dead, not sleeping, not dreaming, not floating around on clouds eating cream cheese. Just dead like last weeks fried chicken.

You go to the ground six ft under if you prefer to be buried. Then you go thru decomposition. If you prefer to be cremated then your ashes are either kept in an urn or scattered or buried. That's it.
