it can be enough.
first NEVER flat iron your hair wet, it completely fries the interior and the exterior of the hair. Just think of it as putting a wet hand on a stove, it burns. Make sure you use an intense moisture hair conditioning mask once a week to deeply hydrate your hair. Also once a week you should remove buildup from your hair from products. Just take baking soda and instead of using shampoo, use the baking soda and leave in for a minute then rinse... IT WILL FEEL DRY!!! i would suggest using the moisture mask the same day as this.
make sure you are using a heat protector that will protect as high of a temperature as you flat iron. The best one there is would be Chi 44 Iron guard, it will protect to 450 degrees.
Other than that, i would suggest you use L'Oreal Hot straight creme, it SAVED my hair and i have not had one split end since i used it. Put it in when you hair is damp.
I hope that helped!!

YES straighting can cause permanent breakage ,its really good to get your hair trimmed every month or two ,its bad to wash your hair & straighten it every day even with heat protectants ,my hair stylist told me to only wish (straighten) my hair 2 times a week because it prevents breakage(i have have chemical processed hair), shampooing strips your hair of its oils and waxes that work better than the most expensive deep conditioners & protects from heat styling, hot oil treatments are the best to revive dry hair caused by heat.

The best products made are by Nexus. You can purchase them at salons. Try to reduce the frequency with which you are using the flat iron. Skip it as a styling tool as often as you can stand, to reduce the heat damage it causes. A better quality flat iron with ceramic plates helps reduce damage, as well. The only one I know that does this is available from: officialseeontv.com. It's called the True Ceramic Pro.

i do it everyday
but what i do is
when i wash my hair (also everyday)
i use shampoo ONLY for the scalp, not the part of my hair that dangles below it because shampoo dries your hair out
and then i rinse it off
then the conditioner
i use a LOTT of it
ONLY on the part thats not on the scalp
then i leave it on for at least 5 minutes
and i prefer garnier fructis because after using that way to wash my hair with that shampoo,
my hair was like NOT dry
cuz straightening your hair dries your hair

What's so wrong with your natural hair? As a feller, I'd say leave it alone apart from a simple cut and set. Declare "What you see is what you get" (or not, as the case may be). Being yourself, and honest, is the most winning way - and it keeps the prizes.

always use a leave-in conditioner and straightening balm. if you keep the heat too high on you machines it will take many conditioning treatments to repair.
