Can anybody tell me how to get to Fire Island, New York from Manhattan area?

I'm thinking of going by train, bus and ferry.

It depends where on Fire Island you're trying to go. Check out the MTA website and look at the LIRR map. Bay Shore will take you to the "hetero" parts of the island and Sayville will take you to the "homo" parts.

You can take the LIRR to bay shore. Then take a taxi to the ferry docks by the water. Then you buy a ferry ticket to one of the several different communities on Fire Island.

I was there once. There's a lighthouse that you can go inside. It's very historic.
