I agree fully. I find it hard to take and it sickens me to no end to think of the harsh reality that many animals face.
And yes, many people are making efforts to stop it, but it seems to be a hopeless effort. More people need to get involved. More signatures are needed on petitions to the government in an effort to change laws, more money is needed in the form of private donations to fund rescue efforts from puppy mills, more education is needed to inform the public about puppy mills and why not to buy from pet stores, and these are efforts that everyone can help at.
If you know someone that wants a puppy, take the time to educate them about the horrors of puppy mills, and ask them to rescue or at least buy from an honest breeder.
You can donate money to organizations like the SPCA, or humane societies, whose main goal it is to improve the lives of animals.
Many efforts are being made, but many more people are needed.

I really hate to answer this way but at least those in other countries are not hypocrites where dogs and cats are concerned. They do not proclaim love for the animals and then slaughter them and they are not killing animals just because they are unwanted. They use them for food, the same way we use cows, pigs and chicken. We may not like it but it is their culture and if you were raised in those countries you would feel differently. In The USA we claim to love dogs and cats yet people treat animals as though they are disposible like garbage. They get tired of their pet and want another so they dump their current pet like yesterday's trash, they move and instead of looking for a place that accepts animals they just get rid of the pet. People here breed just to make extra cash and if they don't find homes for all the pups off to the pound they go and if later on one of those pups they bred is no longer wanted, it is not their problem. I think before we start worrying about other countries, that at least use the animals for food and clothing, we should clean up our own actions where pets are involved because how can we preach cruelty when we kill millions of animals solely because their are not enough homes for all the animals that are bred to supplement incomes or traded in when a new pet is wanted. What we need to do is focus on the cruelty that is done to animals in our own country first. We have set an example first if we want others to follow.

ETA: I think you should look into how the animals we eat are killed because it is not a pretty sight either. And you can not answer what you would or would not eat if you were starving, it is a situation you would have to be in to know for sure.

The best way to help is to educate people. Educate on the horrors of puppy mills and backyard breeders. Let people know that the cute little puppy in the pet store came from a puppy mill!! Get more people to adopt from a shelter or rescue! People often buy that puppy in the pet stores thinking they are saving that puppy. But in reality they are contributing in keep the puppy mills going. The only way to stop puppy mills is to stop their profits. Unfortunately, there is always going to be someone who is still going to buy from a pet store. But I feel the more we educate people, them maybe we can get more to adopt.
And as far as other countries and what they do....well that we really have no control over. But there is alot of abuse going on right here in the US. So start by working on what goes on here in our country. Get active in rescue, ASPCA, etc. Spread the word about how much better it is to adopt!!! And educate people about how important it is to spay and neuter our precious fur babies!

I must agree with Shepherdgirl & texelgirl2. As it is their culture and we cannot change they way their culture is. Many countries think the fact that the US uses Cows for food is awful. Because there are many countries that look at the cow as something sacred. Those countries who use dogs or cats for meat do not look at is any differently than we do using cow, pigs etc. for our meat.

Of course there are people trying to stop it.I know it's horrible how they treat them.If they are going to eat them, they could at least treat them kindly while they are alive, and then kill them quickly and humanely, but they skin them alive, hang them, burn them, club them and throw them in boiling water, and they are STILL ALIVE when they do this. What a horrible way to die,and what kind of people are they that can do this to a living creature? They must have no comapassion whatsoever,as they will gladly kill an endangered species too.
If you want to sign petitons to try and stop this,go to Care2.com ;ASPCA;WSPCA;Humane Society of the United States - these are all animal welfare agencies trying to stop this evil practice.
And,I agree that there is a lot to do in this country, because there is a lot of abuse here, and puppy mills, etc. It's the torture that the animals go through in Asia that sickens me.Can they not kill an animal quickly? No they like for them to suffer, because "it makes the meat tastier,"and the dogs and cats that are skinned alive for fur,are not eaten, but thrown into a pile, often still alive,to rot in the sun.All fur is torture IMO,as here, the animals are caught in bone crushing traps or strangling snares,or electrocuted, drowned, gassed or clubbed on fur farms.

Hey texelgirl2 has a valid and good point! as do others with her same view here. Shes a great friend and i know her well. To report her for abuse for giving you a honest answer is childish and completely wrong. Since you have asked this question twice tells me your looking for bleeding hearts to sympathize with you. If you dont like good arguments and you cant handle opposing answers dont ask them.
Of couse what is happening is horrific I agree with you so much. I cant STAND what they are doing there some one should teach them compassion. Belive me I know what texelgirl has seen first hand here too and its just not fair to the poot animals no matter where it happens.

Speaking out for cultures that do eat and skin dogs, at least they find some use for them, when not needed as pets.
Feral dogs are not a good thing. Go to any shelter and realise all the dogs that you see, if not given homes, will be gassed, or injected, and burned or put in landfills.
I, for one, would rather see them eaten, as the lesser of the two evils. Cows and ducks and pigs, goats and roosters all make good pets, but in our culture we see them mainly as food....
Why blame the Chinese and Koreans, Filipinos and Pacific islanders for their preference of meat, when we don't remove the board from our own eyes?

PETA is utter bull, there is a reason no other organization[the ones that actually do animals good] are involved with them. It is sad, but just because YOU don't agree with it doesn't me YOU should force you beliefs on other, they do that to cows, pigs, ect. in the US. These people need this meat to live.

I don't know why people make it their duty to intervene in other countries beliefs and lifestyles.

ummmm yeah thats what shelters are for, I work daily to try to stop overpopulation, neglect, and abuse..... I have a problem with PETA and other fanatic groups they do more harm than good and basically anyone belonging to the group is 2-faced and nerotic. I am sure you find it really disgusting that people in other countries eat dogs. Its not disgusting its a way of life. You were brought up in a diffrent culture so eating dog meat is considered gross. There is a staple diet since they can not raise alot of cows, no room for them. Believe me you will deny it but if you were starving and hungry as hell you would not pass up a doggie hamburger. I dont mind people eating dogs and cats as long as they were raised correctly, and killed humanely. Its just the same as eating a cow, chicken, or pig. Its just you dont see they laying in a feather bed, on a cozy porch, fetching the sunday paper. Its all about culture and taboo.
As far as the fur trade goes, as long as people want fur on things its always going to be there. Again I dont have a problem with it... as LONG as they kill the animal humanely. Also that they were raised in good conditons, have available to spacious living quarters, food and water given daily, and nicely treated.
Humans are hunters and have been from time immoral if you believe in evolution then we are hunters and meat eaters ... if you believe in creation then in Genesis god told adam he created all the beasts of the earth to serve man. So interpret what you like with that.
WHOA heart of Glass you dont know me from ADAM... zip it boy cause I DONT NEED TO SEE ANY footage!!! I live it EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE i am a Abuse and Neglect investigator for the state of Minnesota I will invite you to my shelter for a ride along the next time I investigate a animal Horder right here on our own US SOIL. Im too busy dealing with out own peoples PROBLEMS to watch footage of what CHINESE do to animals... why do we solve our problems here then we can butt into the worlds problems and solve them too since the AMERICAN WAY is the only way to go according to you... please I dont need to footage to see what happens every single day in my own backyard. Dogs being starved, dogs being beaten to death with shovels, dogs set on fire by kids who thinks its funny, Dogs being eviscerated and then buried while still alive and digging themselves out of there graves to save there puppies. DUDE YOU DONT TELL ME WHAT I HAVE SEEN OR HAVENT!!! shove it up your behind keep eating veggies... thats good for the garden people Ill continue to eat meat and fight stupid pet owners every day.
