Ok...first why I'm asking...I've been having some issues with religion. Last night I had decided to pray to God about the Book of Mormon. I gave myself into full submission to Hin and asked Him to show me a verse that will let me know that LDS is the truth. I opened the book and pointed to Mosiah 2:34 which says
" I say unto you, that there are not any among you, except it be your little children that have not been taught concerning these things, but what knoweth that ye are eternally indebted to your heavenly Father, to render to him all that you have and are; and also have been taught concerning the records which contain the prophecies which have been spoken by the holy prophets, even down to the time our father, Lehi, left Jerusalem;"

And I knew right then and there that it had to be true because what are the chances of all that happening? So to any Mormons, was your experience anything like this?

Yeah, I know it's in the bible...but the point is I wasn't asking God to show me a verse in the bible that will let me know it's true. I know the Bible is true, that Jesus is real and is alive and that there is a God...but I wasn't sure about Joseph Smith, but now I do...

I have been to kirtland, OH on a LDS youth conference thing a few years ago when I learned the story of Joseph Smith...

but anyway, the point is, if the book of mormon wasn't true, then why would God point me to that specific verse? It was the ONLY one my finger was on...out of the hundreds of pages and thousands of verses...what are the chances it would land on the one talking about what I had just done!

Yeah black death, that's why for 3 years the missionaries came and taught me but I would constantly ignore what they said and would often test the missionaries...I am just THAT gullible...

Do not be lead astray by the Devil who comes in sheeps clothing.

Check the fruit or the prophet. Did his prophesies come true? If any of them did not, then he is not a prophet of God.

I cannot follow a false prophet. For a false prophet is from Satan, not God.

You know, what's funny is all those folks filled with lies about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. They are actually so gullible that they believe the ridiculous stories they've heard. They haven't checked the facts, because it is the lies they want to believe. And then they call you gullible. That's funny.

I've had similar experiences to yours. I think some folks just know its true right away. For many it is a process of sowing the seeds, nurturing them, and watching the fruit that develops. As we learn, line about line, precept upon precept, and we study it out in our minds, asking God if it be true, then we come to know for ourselves. It is receiving the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, that calm feeling of peace and enlightenment as we earnestly strive to understand each and every principle of the gospel. Something gives us hope as we start our quest for truth, faith keeps us going, and piece by piece we can gain a sure knowledge of the truth. You've only just begun on the path to a spiritual witness of the truth of all that is true.

Everyone's experience is a little different but special. What is the same is the spirit that attends the moment of personal revelation that the Book of Mormon is true (or any truth).

My own conversion was a some total of many revelations given to me through-out my life. Many manifestations of the spirit telling me that what I heard or read was true.

It wasn't until I entered the MTC to go on a mission that I recognized that spirit as being the Holy Ghost telling me that this doctrine was good and true. Then I knew I had known it all my life and that my parents and leaders had given me all this knowledge and the spirit was testifying to me that it was true.

Good luck and God Bless

I have had some wonderful experiences just like that, and I continue to pursue them in faith. As soon as I started acknowledging that it was God sending me the answers I was seeking, I found that bot my knowledge and my faith increased. Now it is no longer a question of opening the book and pointing to a verse so much as it is asking a question and having a particulare phrase or passage come to mind. The hard thing is, if you stop searching, it feels like you lose ground. Always keep that forward motion!

And, by the way, I love all of those chapters in Mosiah, 2-6, where king benjamin is speaking to his people. THey are full of great answers like that!

That is a great testimony. Thank you for sharing. Having grown up in the church, I can't really point to one experience and say that is when I knew. Mine testimony grew slowly over time. I had experiences at firesides, young mens, Sunday school, and other places that all built upon each other.

Have you even considered the actual facts behind the BoM story?
It was translated by Smith using a peepstone buried in a hat, the same method he used when looking for 'buried Spanish treasure' on various New England village farms.
The claimed 'reformed Egyptian' language is unverified and unlikely given the attitude of Jews regarding Egyptians. Also, Jews did not keep records on stamped brass codices (as in 'book'), they used parchment scrolls, unless they had considerable time on their hands, copper (there is only one example of the latter). No one ever saw these gold plates except when they were covered. Apparently anyone could see them up to 400AD.
In any case, you can "Be like unto a child", read Dr Seuss's "Green Eggs and Ham" (with all it's biblical chiasmus format) and come away with an allegorical experience.
The chances that you are incorrect in your interpretation are astronomically high.

Wow! Quite the coincidence, is it also a coincidence that the Book of Abraham Facsimiles are ordinary Egyptian funerary texts? Is it a coincidence that there is no hard archeological evidence to support your book? Is it a coincidence that Smith was a treasure hunter and would dabble in thee occult? Is it a coincidence that it was already widely believed that the Indians came from Hebrews? You would have been impressed regardless of what scripture you turned to, you’re just so gullible.
