It's not just the idea of having 17 children that is unsafe here. This lady has had previous c sections. These scars upon her uterus are at risk of rupturing during delivery. That is why repeat C sections are recommended in her case. This lady has refused and opted for vaginal delivery.
I agree that she has been successful at VBAC (vaginal delivery after cesarean section) but each pregnancy is different, and how is she to know what emergency situations will arise.

I think I have. I've also heard of a family from Arkansas who's had there 17th child recently. Personally, I think I'd always have a constant headache. However, the Dugger children seemed very polite and well-behaved. There parents do seem to be very good people, though, and the mother doesn't look unhealthy or permantly tired from having so many children. I wouldn't think it's healthy, though, and honestly see no reason in having so many kids. What's wrong with just having one or two?

Her body will eventually give out and she will have complications if she continues to have more and more babies. My question is why?? They are getting publicity and a TV show about them could that be why? Its not like the world is in need of re-population. I bet those older girls are mothers to some of the kids, how could they not be, you can't give all the quality time to each one them, there is not enough time in the day. Or why not adopt the thousands and thousands of children in foster care who need loving homes such as theirs seems to be. I just think 17 is a bit much, but what ever its there family I just hope they are being fully supported financially on there own no state aide involved and I suppose they probably are with the media and TV show . Will see how those kids end up when the youngest is 40, I would like to see a show where are they now. lol

It use to be common for woman to have that many babies and really close together but they also seemed to die rather young (around 60) compared to woman who have less children and see to live longer anymore. My greatgrandma had 16 and died at 60 but my grandma had 3 and she is almost 80. But I have watched the show and read the stories and her Dr says she is doing fine. She is healthy and the kids are healthy.

Some women are made for bearing kids. Mrs. D seems to be that type. If you could look at her medical records, you'd probably find that she has short, easy labors. The good thing is her daughters will probably inherit that.

By the way, there were two sets of twins in there so she has been pregnant fifteen times if there were no miscarriages.

I've heard of them and I admire her and her courage, strength, and sanity. I always wanted a big family, not as big as her's, but I wanted 12........I had 4, and my body went to H#%LL in a handbasket!! Not to mention my sanity...where the heck did that go?? LOL
When I was in High school many years ago(25), there was a boy in my class whose mom and dad had 21 children!! NO LIE.......
The day we graduated High school, she had number 22 at 8am, and was at graduation at 1:30!!! The boy in my class was the 3rd oldest, so 19 under him. he was 18!!
The family had more love to go around than I had ever seen..not to mention his mom's organizational skills...DANG she should be voted for president!!! LOL The kids had respect for the parents, all did the chores with out whining, or fighting...yet, they were all able to just be kids too. I really admired them too.!!

I think it's great!! More Power to Her/Them

it's a personal choice,...though not for everyone obvously. they seem to be quite well-adjusted kids. I've got four ant that's plenty for me....I couldn't imagine 17!

to answer your question...a womans body was made for pregnancy and childbirth...Mrs. Duggar seems robust enough to handle it. And contrary to popular belief, being pregnant is actually HEALTHY for the body because of the hormones produced during pregnancy. So as long as a woman gets enough nutiritious foods and good exercise and rest and haas no other health problems, SHe should be able to keep popping kids out for her entire reproductive life if she wants.

Women used to and still do die from childbirth. There are always risks. My question for that family though would be... if they estimate that by the time your child is 19 you have spent 1.6 million dollars on that ONE child. How do they have the money to support a family of 19 and still ensure that their children have opportunities in their lives to explore different things!

I read a statistic that the poor woman has been pregnant 10.5 years of her life. That would suck, especially the last 2 months. I wish her and her family the best though. If they can do it and support them all, more power to them!! GRATS for the new baby girl =)
