it's not just you. There's a lot of people who don't really know much about the mechanics of singing, and are content to just open their mouths and let any old thing come out. Recitation ( you call it rap) is an extremely old form of singing, but it doesn't have to be montonous or dull. Yelling is just a waste of voice, sorry screamos, but your days are numbered.
People who take the time to deliver their text with a modicum of diction and good taste are slowly dying out.
but hey, maybe it's another generation thing?!?

I love artists who will actually open their mouth and be LOUD as hell and not give a damn if other people think that they are too loud or high pitched.
