My personal preference is Silver Oak Cabernet at about $120.00 from the vineyard....It is wonderful and is about 13.5% if I remember correctly. If you are new to wine, you might prefer something a little sweeter (or less dry) like a valpolicella or a lambrusco, both are good starter wines.
A good rule of thumb is the dryer the wine the higher the alcohol content.

That depends on your palete. You may like a drter wine. Or prefer reds over whites. Perhaps you like a sparkling wine. Maybe you like a heavy bodied wine or a lighter fruitier taste... There are many components in chosing a good wine.

It's a personal preference, you really need to go on a wine tasting tour and start with sour and finish with sweet. Write down the Brand name, type and year that you like and stick with that. Standard % is 12
