I don't own a Chihuahua but I'm pretty sure 45 mins is a while....Considering that human mothers take a long too have babys it might be the same with dogs. I'de wait a few more minutes and if the puppies don't come and she looks like she's having trouble call the vet and ask them how long Chihuahuas take too have puppies normaly....I hope this helps

Good luck!

OK!!! First off! CALM DOWN!!!! don't get your female excited or all worked up... she's got enough to worry about!

45 mins is a long time but it can take up to 2 1/2 hours! Watch her closely!!! If she continues to push and have contractions you best CALL!!! your vet to see what they suggest! They might be able to walk u through it! or they might tell you to bring her in. But a professional opinion is always best!

But calm down, sit by her if that helps (some it does and some it doesn't, I seem to see that first time mothers need a lil comfort because although they have instincts that help them through the process... they are still scared and aren't entirely sure what is going on!)

Please keep us posted on this... and let me know if i can be of any more assitance!

*** Just a little more information from my experience... I keep records on all my litters.

From the start of labor to birth the longest i've had is 60 mins. Shortest in 2 mins.
Inbetween pups - Shortest is 1 min and Longest is 115mins.

In our clinic (under the vets supervision I have seen them take 3 hrs before they have thier first pup and we just did a c-section on a Jack russel the other day that had been in labor for 39 hours (she had passed one pup... it was about 38 HOURS! between pups) before we were able to remove the remaining 3... and they all lived!!!!!!!! The one thing that kept her and the pups alive was she was not pushing!***

Call the vet don't rush her to the vet, unless the vet tells you to bring her in. The vet will walk you through and he will tell you when it is necessary to bring her if it is necessary at all sometimes labor can last up to 12 hours between puppies. my sister had the same experience with one of her dogs and the vet walked her through what should happen and what she should do . it took her dog an hour 1/2 before she had a puppy and the vet told her she was fine . well good luck with the puppies

I'm not sure what a "bubble" is? If she pushes for more than 2 hours without a pup, you have to call a vet ASAP! Chihuahuas have problems whelping puppies, which is why this should be left to the experienced breeders. If this dog has problems and you don't get her to a vet, she will die and so will the pups.

Good luck.

PS Being an *** is not against the rules here, and is different than abuse. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Regardless of whether this is your first litter or not research should have been done prior to breeding and certainly before whelping. Here are some websites with lots of info:

When in doubt the person to ask should be a vet so make a call and find out what a professional has to say.
BTW, when you ask a question and threaten people at the same time, it makes it hard for anyone to want to help you.

Most chihuhua's I've seen had help with vet or an owner that knew more than you do . I hope the daddy was the same size as she is and not some monster size. At times they die in puppy birth

Call the vet or take her to the vet - she may need assistance to get the puppies out - there may be on stuck and you do risk losing both her and the puppies

If she is pushing for more than an hour, we consider this a possible emergency situation. It is pretty common for Chihuahua's to need C-sections. You might want to call the local emergency hospital and give them a heads-up that you might be coming in. I hope you planned on potential problems with breeding this breed--a middle of the night C-section can cost well over $1,000, but the alternative is possibly losing the pups and mother.
