...Many rap artists wear cross necklaces? Their music tends to focus on acts of (or related to) sinning; and yet they display a cross on their body?

Yes, I do find it ironic.

I also find it grimly ironic when -anyone- wears a cross necklace. Jesus had -rusty iron spikes- hammered through his wrists onto a cross, and two thousand years later people are trotting about with the instrument of his destruction cast in sterling silver around their necks. If Jesus had died during the French revolution, would you be wearing a guillotine around your neck? If he'd died a few decades ago, would you be wearing an electric chair? If he were sitting on death row now, would you be wearing a cute little syringe on a chain around your neck? That's freaking -morbid-. I understand that it's important for Christians to remember Jesus's suffering and the pain he went through—but honestly, for how many people is that the reason they wear a cross necklace? For most people, it seems to just be a "hey, I'm in the Christ Club too!" type deal.

Sorry for getting a bit off topic.

Ironic? No.

I am an atheist who wears a cross necklace and bracelet, gifts from one of the Christians in this forum. I also carry a religious keychain--again, a gift from this person.

I wear mine to honor my friend. It's not necessary to be a Christian to wear a cross.

yes, it is sadly ironic. I believe in the hip-hop community the cross is more of a sign of fashion or black solidarity or something cultural like that. If only they would heed the message of the cross they are wearing, and follow the One who endured the cross for their sake.

I think it's best to just not take anything related to rap seriously, once there is a song called "Smack That" then you should learn that these people don't really think things through

Madonna wore crosses. Still does and she now practicing Kabbalah. A cross is jut a cross. A crucifix is different.

My son is Catholic and he wears shirts with skulls on them. Does that mean he is less of a believer?

I guess if catholics can sin and just repent to a mere man to forgive them rappers can do the same...no I do not like rap music, but it is really the same thing.

No more ironic than you judging rap artists when the bible says judge not, lest you be judged (assuming you are christian). We're all born sinners. Rap artists can't be christian because they sing about sin?

It's a style thing! Those crosses are usually huge so I guess I should say it's a bling thing!

there are many ways to put this but, in short standing in a church makes you no more a christian than standing in a bank makes you a banker.

The same with wearing a symbol.

It really bothers me. I REALLY enjoy the skill and talent of rap artists, like Bone Thugs N Harmony, who almost always have a worshipful song on their CD. The rest of the CD is about murder, sex, and crime. I think they know what's right, but maybe think it doesn't apply to them. Sadly, I can't listen to a lot of rap on my own convictions, although they are very talented. I just can't handle the brutal language they pump out in most songs.
