Quran 4:84 “Fight then in Allah's way; this is not imposed on you except In relation to yourself, and ROUSE THE BELIEVERS TO ARDOR MAYBE Allah will restrain the fighting of those who disbelieve and Allah is strongest in prowess and strongest to give an exemplary punishment.” http://cwis.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/004.qmt.html

Some translations say "rouse" others say "incite". The meaning is the same...pick a fight with the unbelievers....start a fight with the unbelievers.

Wait, havent I heard Muslims claim that allllllllll the violent passages in the Quran are merely redundant expressions for "fight only in self defense" (5 words),.

Dear Mr Vladimir. You can not interpret a verse(4.84 Surah An Nisaa) uncomplete. You should know also why this verse given by Allah to Muhammad pbuh.At that time muslims in Medina where Muhammad lived with his followers would be attacked by 1000 sodiers of unbelievers from Mecca. They got together at Badar a small town at the border of Medina.Muhammad urged his followers to make a war preparation among muslims but they did want to go to war.So God gave instruction to fight the unbelivers at Badar as a way of enforcing Islam as Allah's religion .Muhammad pbuh with 300 followers went to Badar and fighted the unbelievers .At that time the muslim soldiers got win.Allah gave support to the muslim soldiers because Allah has the greatest power and Allah is very hard its punishment. So indeed all muslims until now are defensive and no agressive. As you know,Iraq and Afghanistan people has been attacked and invaded by the unbelievers or mostly christians from outside their country with force..They killed so many innocent people and destroyed so many buildings including the historical buildings and mosques. The heroic muslims there are still fighting the invaders by guerilla war hit and run.So do you know who is starting the war in this world ?

Just that one verse and you think it tell the whole stories? Why don't you copy and paste the earlier verses as well and find out which "unbelievers" Muhammad need to fight, especially verses 4:75 and 4:81.
