The left hand is used for the setup and the right hand is the punisher. This assumes a right-handed fighter. A hook is considered a strong set-up punch. Once out there, you have no follow-up with the right hand other than another quick hook. Obviously, if you are a lefty, everything is reversed.

Right hook is not that common a punch for an orthodox fighter. A hook from the rear hand has a very short range.

because for a orthodox fighter a right hook is not really considered a punch because the way the body is positioned it would be really difficult to throw that punch. so they usually go with the left hand for a hook unless you're a southpaw

If your right handed the right hook is easy to see coming and its slower. If u wanna see a perfect right hook thrown watch the Hopkins vs. Trinidad fight and go straight to the 12th round and you'll see a perfect right hook that sent Trinidad to sleep

if you are orthodox, then it's because a right hook is quite slow and doesn't have really good targets, unless you're in fighting closely
