Take a look and see what is running when you first startup. You might be doing a full scan or starting up a bunch of unwanted programs. Clean out anything unnecessary to start faster.

As said before , make sure that the processor's connector pins aren't bent.
Also , make sure to install the heatsink and fan correctly , and , make sure to use better thermal paste , not the crappy greace that intel gives you.
Try getting some Artic Silver thermal compound , you can get it at best buy. Make sure to ground yourself either by touching metal or, what I like to do , useing an anti-static wrist band. After all , there is a change you short circuited something on your motherboard. The first time I built a PC , that happened , and , I had to replace the motherboard.
But , I do think it is a heating issue , keep your computer on for a lil' bit , shut it off , then go into BIOS , and to PC Health , and check on the temp , that will give you a semi-accurate result.
Good Luck ,
Joe

Check your BIOS's settings. Although I haven't seen this taking place since the days of Pentium 1's and Windows 95, your motherboard could be running a RAM test every time you turn the PC on, and although it takes a few seconds on a P1 with 16MB of RAM, 4GB of RAM is a lot to test, and may very well take 8 to 10 minutes. There might be options for all this stuff in your BIOS for something like quick boot or full boot or test RAM or something. Go with Quick boot or no RAM test if it's available.
And, so you know, Geek Squad isn't all they say they are, my motherboard blew out under warranty, it took the idiots 6 tries to replace mine (an HP mobo, they swapped it for a Compaq mobo with slow chip, broken Ethernet port, then it took them a few more weeks to replace that, and it still was underclocked, so it took them even MORE tries) :P Geek Squad is stupid.

Geek Squad is notably uncomplicated, and that they are backed by means of a great organization. although, they are going to cost you so lots extra and could not comprehend as lots simply by fact the community computing gadget guy. yet they could comprehend extra and have extra methods. I used to artwork for Geek Squad and that i comprehend that a number of the folk there comprehend lots whilst others do not. They do have some notably advantageous methods nevertheless, yet they are going to attempt to sell you stuff.

My adviced would be Reseat it.
Make sure there are no bent pins.
make sure that all the power connections are secure
Download speedfan and see if your temps are high- over 55C is bad idle. (idle is when your not doing anything on it)
Try that and see.
Did u propperly put the heatsink/fan combo on?
Did u use enough thermal paste?
Did u use too much.
