Oh Gosh, I know it hurts and it is really uncomfortable, but think about it. Would your parents do anything to hurt you?
Let alone spend $2000, if you didn't absolutely need this.
It's kinda hard for you to see the big picture right now, but all of this is for a better future for you. Why don't you try a compromise for a few days and work out some sort of schedule where you can wear it for awhile, but after a honest try of falling asleep, then you can remove it if you didn't. After a few days of trying, I bet it will become easier. But you have to have an open mind. Maybe you can take a mild pain reliever for a few night to help.?
Believe me when I tell you, the hardest thing for a Mother to see is her child in any sort of pain or discomfort , so your mom isn't just being mean or bossy. Don't make it harder on her than it already is. She is just looking out for your future.

When I was your age I had a back brace also, actually two. I had to wear one during the day that kept me straight and at night I had to sleep in one that turned my body the opposite way of my curves. I was the same as you...I tried wearing them, but always ended up taking them off. They are very uncomfortable and difficult to sleep in. My advice to you is to try and wear it a little more everyday. The first few nights wear it for an hour or so, then 2 hours a night for a few days after that and so on. Even if you just add on 15 more minutes everyday, it will help. Eventually you will get a little more used to it. Also, I think this is bad, but I used to take tylenol pm sometimes to help me fall asleep with it on. I lucked out and I ended up having a growth spurt that straightened my back out just enough that I didn't have to wear the brace anymore. Good luck to you. I really do feel your pain. E-mail me if you need someone to vent to. : )

You are not being smart about this. Put the brace back on. You need to tell your parents about the discomfort- and tell them that you do not want to wear it because of pain, and tell the doctor to help with the "pain" of it. You could permantly screw yourself by not doing this, you know it! You are being foolish to say that your parents wasted money- that's not the point, butthead! This thing is supposed to help save your back from the ravages of scoliosis- you want to look like a friggin' hump back? Who's stupid now. Think about your future- if you wear it- it will give a chance at slowing this crap down- if you don't do that- you are just letting this crap run it's course! I don't care how old you are, you should still see that. Surgery. That should scare you. Back surgery is usually more than a one time fixes it all thing- you will probably do that over and over if you don't try to fix it now. God Be with You.

I would encourage you to go to either MSN Groups or Yahoo groups and find a group for other people who wear them. They might have one for people your age who need them or it might be one for everyone. But there has got to be one somewhere and you shouldn't be dealing with the frustrations that come with wearing it alone.

Please find someone who is in a similar situation to yours and support each other. Look online for groups or individuals.

Because you do need to wear it and you will care about your backaches. There is no other way to say that than bluntly.
