"will enlarge his perceptions "

If this is an inner experience, then how can ones perceptions be 'enlarged'?
What would have to be true for this to be possible?

Got insight?

Clever Sun Man !

I cannot resist the temptation to play in this glorious sandbox of yours. ;-)))

They say that we have five senses .... and then some people say that maybe we have six. I do not allow any numeric limitations, so for the sake of tidiness I will suggest an infinitude of them.

But here's a clue, beyond the five physical ones everyone knows that they have 'feelings', but who has ever tried to define exactly what 'feelings' are ?

OK, we all 'feel' pain, heat, cold, touch, texture and so on, but these are still physical. What about 'feeling' someone's eyes on your back, what about "I had a 'feeling' that you were going to call", or "You hurt my 'feelings'".

We nearly all say these things but what do we mean ?

I offer this:

'Feelings' are the language of the energetic beings that we are, beyond the merely physical monkey suits that we perambulate about this planet in. The language of the 'soul' some say, the etheric language say yet others.

They are both the means of perception and the means of communication of those perceptions. At that level, when fully opened, we can convey to each other precisely what we perceive, what we feel.

The whole of Life is an expanding process, and therefore the means of perceiving and communicating experience grows exponentially and in harmony with Life itself.

Got insight ? Ausgezeichnet !

Insight = outer sight (hehe)

I think people have forgotten how to use the inner sight. I mean, everybody has it but in order to meld extraordinary perception with ordinary perception, one has to take notice of what is going on.

An extraordinary experience, so it seems, acts like a shunt. (I don't know if this is the term I'm looking for. You know, the thingy that they stick in a narrow place and enlarge it, and the place stretches too?) After having such an experience, the boundaries of perception will widen.

Which does not mean that if no use is made of the new boundaries, they will not start narrowing down again after a while. But they will not close down completely, and the next time something extraordinary happens that shifts the person's perception, it will happen more easily. The boundaries have already stretched and the body remembers.

Look at the context:

"... all legitimate moments of mystic consciousness will always have a unifying effect. They will not, therefore, isolate the individual involved, but instead will enlarge his perceptions until he will experience the reality and uniqueness of as many other aspects of reality of which he is capable."

Perception is a mental process. As such, it will always be an inner experience, provided that one "see" things as being inside or outside of one's personal boundary.

But the barrier between "I" and "Universe" is not fixed. It is personally created and requires personal energy to maintain. It is somehow required for the logical mind, but not for being nor for perception.

Is there any difference between "enlarge one's perceptions" and "be more aware of Reality"? One's personal perceptions or awareness depends upon the barrier or boundary that one creates.

Is this not the meaning of "Insight"? Those so caught up in feeding their personal boundary, putting all of their time and energy into personal prejudices and mental concepts, can never move beyond this boundary. Their understanding of the Universe stops with themself (which they can never fully understand in relationship to anything or anyone else).

A true mystical moment allows perception of much more than self. Perhaps "enlarge" is not the best word to use, but it does seem to get the point across.

Sit comfortably, close your eyes and stop thinking. Concentrate on your breathing, especially air entering from your nostrils to lungs and back up to nostril for 5 breaths. Then concentrate on your perceptions, at least for 1 to 5 minutes. Gradually you will find that your perceptions gets enlarged. It may come true if you fully concentrate.
Thanks with regards.

Depends on what one knows of consciousness and mind. One enlarges the mind beyond the organic consciousness. The tree of life is the perfect mind that has evolved beyond the organic limitations, expanding into the birth into the spirit. Perception is enlarged if you correlate it with the constitution of mind, the mind has the potential of many perceptions, yes, 12x12 (144k), but we are only polarized to a single perspective at birth and this polarization is due to the fact that we are individually immersed in specific vibrations, that serve the need of particular development.

The objective is to become whole mind orientated, to overcome the divisions that exist within our minds and bring the earthly consciousness into harmony with the heavenly, to unite the mind in harmony, and expanding the mind beyond the natural organic limitations of the body we begin to operate at higher perception, a perception of soul, as all of the perceptions that exist within sub-personalities of the "I" will support the other, holding up the single ideal and the movement of thought-essence/energy within the mind will flow without obstruction, without ceasing, moving and evolving from earthly to the heavenly in mind - like a descending octave and a ascending octave becoming one in the center, the love state. This is soul perspective.

Peace!

Spiritually, it is because you experience the completely unlimited nature of the Universe. You have no choice but to see its vastness, as well as your own -- this unconscious sea of knowledge is what you can tap into, draw it down to the physical, and truly enlighten yourself as you use this tool to attain true consciousness, that is, total awareness of the truth of your soul. The only thing that would have to be true for this to be possible is for you to explore it, experience it.

From a scientific basis, you are tapping into parts of the brain that you normally do not use. That alone can enlarge your perceptions.

we use so little of our brains in everyday Life - was this the intent of the Creatress so that those who are seekers can 'enlarge' their perceptions?
is this the part we access when we 'feel' someone looking at us, or 'know' when a friend will knock the door or 'sense' a friend has a problem? this is our "in" sight that allows us to see out, beyond the boundaries

Words are symbols we use to illustrate, or uncover, what is. "Enlarge" or, "Expand", are what we have to describe the nearly indescribable.

"Inner" has no meaning really, because there is no "Outer".

There literally are systems of thought, of reality, of knowledge, that cannot be described. There are no words.

If you have ever felt suddenly your head, and your extremities...your whole body, seem to grow, feel heavy and huge, this is a symbol for expansion of consciousness. I have experienced this a few times, and it is extraordinary. Jane Roberts describes having this experience in one or more of her books, but I don't recall which.

My initial experience was intense beyond measure. The next experience was a pale shadow of the original. Each experience since has been stronger and is now approaching the power of the first. It took 24 years because I've frequently decided not to experience it. Since the spiritual self is eternal and timeless it is ever present and of constant strength but our willingness to experience this intimate encounter impedes us. Just as being in an intimate relationship with someone has ranges of emotion so it is with God and ourselves.

Perceptions are not spatial they are exponential - if a cosmic bubble grows by one inch all around the area inside increases tremendously - each nudge of the sphere brings more into our inner universe. Words fail.
