This is something best answered by his Drs!

It depends on a lot of factors that none of us have.

My brother had cancer on his tonsil.

We trhought the obvious treatment was to remove his tonsil, but instead he had Chemo and radiation which first shrank then killed the tumour with no surgery.

My own cancer was in the breast and I had surgery followed by chemo and radiation.

Others only have the surgery.

We have a friend who was diagnosed with throat cancer, and he recieved chemo.
Thankfully he is in remission, but this was all that was done.
Once the chemo treatment has started, and he is observed for a bit, and if the dr's. see no change they may use other options.
good luck
