Ok, so I went to Chinatown and bought high-class green tea leaves (1$5.00) and after I found out it said "Manufacture date February 20th,1990). Is it still safe to drink? The pack hasn't been opened (obviously)

That's some pretty old tea you got there. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable from some tea from the early 90's. I'd try to return it for some "fresher" tea. Maybe from the late 90's.

I don't know about Green Tea specifically. But I drank plenty of very old Pekoe teas last year after clearing out my parents' home. I think some of the Earl Grey was from in the 70s and it tasted the same as my newer supply. I guess I never thought about dried tea leaves going bad, or even losing their flavor like herbs and spices can do. Your tea certainly is still safe, just might not be as flavorful so use more each time!
