I'm curious about this particular portion of that quote. (that was from Seth Speaks by Jane Roberts, by the way)

"...enlarge his perceptions until he will experience the reality and uniqueness of as many other aspects of reality of which he is capable."

"...of which he is capable."

What makes a person capable?

ca·pa·ble (kp-bl) KEY

ADJECTIVE:

Having capacity or ability; efficient and able.
Having the ability required for a specific task or accomplishment; qualified.
Having the inclination or disposition.
Permitting an action to be performed.

What was it about you that made you capable? Did it come naturally? Did you have to work at it? To me, it seems like all the 'random factors' had to align at just the right time and place for this to happen.(there are no accidents) What did you do at just the right place and time?
Also, is it possible to become more capable? To perfect your capability?
Is that even desirable?

I've had some sort of natural ability since I was young, but it was my path that opened up the realms of higher conscience to me.
My studies of the ancient wisdoms opened doors, I found my self remembering truths that I hadn't been exposed to in this life. It was after I gave up red meat that things started coming to me out of nowhere. It is not always a nice experience. I have connected to situations that literally scared the crap out of me! Once you open up, your open to whats out there. Sometimes it's very comforting or informative, sometimes I wish I could filter out those things that I don't want to know or see!
You must bring yourself into tune with the Universal energy. Understanding, meditating and connecting with it, mind, body & spirit. You must be strong and brace yourself, for some very
ugly things will be revieled to you as well as the good.
My first intense visions, were Jeffery Dahmer. It happened the night they busted him in Milwalkee. It took me a couple of days to figure it out. I still have a brain tattoo from that one.

I think it started with 'having the inclination or disposition'. Having had a 'glimpse' when I was young prepared me for future opportunities.

But that first taster? That I cannot explain. Did it occur naturally? Yes, I'm sure it did. Was I somehow 'prepared' for it. Not that I am aware. Right place and time? Of course.

As for 'perfecting' capability, well for that I have no answer. I'm sure that, as they say of warriors, it is necessary to know that something may happen and to always be ready should it do so.

But can we become capable of more? And if so, how? I don't think I've ever thought in those terms before. Certainly not sufficiently to provide an answer yet. Sorry.

i have had the ability from a very young age but the the 'capable' part was hit and miss until i learned how to harness it when i wished to, rather than it being thrust upon me unbidden.
i can remember my first sensation of flight at around age 3 or 4 and being scared, very scared! i could feel mys'Elf being pulled into the 'Mix' of the multiverse - and until i realised it was a an embrace from the Creatress it was soul-shaking stuff!

so, sunman, it was a combination of natural ability, intuition and - sometimes hard - work, with an element of random events

we can become more of what we are through practice, and through good practice - harm no-one - it is desirable to become more capable if it to used wisely and for the benefit of the Whole not just the one

blessed be

Look at the context of capable:

"... will experience the reality and uniqueness of as many other aspects of reality of which he is capable."

All are capable. Some have more capability than others, that is, will be able to perceive or experience more of Reality and understand the Uniqueness of the aspects meaningful to that individual.

Faith is a matter of knowing that humans are not in control of Reality. Faith can help one to become more capable, but being Capable can also deepen Faith.

You last three questions leads to a round robin argument. It is not only possible to become more capable, it is very likely. Capability is never perfected, it is a Path. Desire is one of the stumbling blocks upon the Path.

Things happen. Allow them to happen. Do not wish for them to happen. Do not attempt to force them to happen. Do not become emotionally involved with making them happen. Permit the happening.

To tell you the truth, I think the only thing that made me capable of the harnessing, and somewhat understanding, the experiences that I have had is the fact that I had/have an absolutely patient and loving companion who has stuck with me thru think and thin! (My wife, Mrs. Cosmic Firefly! hehe)

But, as you said... "it seems like all the 'random factors' had to align just at the right time and place" for things to happen for me. And, one of those main "random factors" was a drug experience where my wife and I connected (One Mind) completely... more so than I felt we ever had before. And, for the first time, I heard and FELT the *truth* flow from her being, into mine, and it opened my eyes wider than they had been before that moment.

Did I have to work at it? To get to that point... I don't think I HAD to work at it, as it kinda come on randomly (or so it would seem... but we all know randomness is a myth! heh)

BUT, I will say that I have been working on understanding more about myself, from that moment on. Which, I would say, is probably the only way you can "become more capable" or "perfect your capability"... you must know yourself... through and through!

It's just funny how the one person we think would be the easiest to know (ourself), is sometimes the hardest person to get to know! ;-)

Little by Little, we work it on out, ya? =D

You grow in your capacity for these things as you apply yourself. Its a growing thing, the laws are set up in a manner where where you must be live the truth as you understand and by doing so you gain a greater capacity for truth, or a greater capacity of seeing things from its multidimensional status (as the mind is multidimensional, which needs to evolve/expand beyond the carnal level, by using your vital energy to accomplish this feat). It's not by chance, nor is it random, it takes super effort, it takes consciousness. The higher you climb a mountain, the greater the view you will have of the scenery below, the higher you move through the levels of a building to more you will be able to see of the city, until you reach the roof and can see the city in a greater capacity.

I agree with Gnostic on the subject that people viewed Gnostics as elitist for possessing Esoteric knowledge that others did not, the truth of the matter is the only reason this was Esoteric knowledge was mainly due to the fact that the majority multitude of man operated at a frequency/level of consciousness which was organic. It wasn't that these things were secret from them, concealed from them, rather by reason of their organic nature which is fragmented, lower animal consciousness and which is all at the vibration of the earth hindered them so they could not conceive the higher things, so it would be better to say they concealed themselves from it, since it was in their power to know all things and prove all things, by they remained in a defect state blaming those who have put in the work receive what they have. It was their own insecurity that made them point the finger at others for their own quagmire, a quagmire that all men face as it is an organic limitation. Natural man can does not have the capability because natural mans has not developed his mind beyond the carnal level and is mechanical mostly because of this nature (and the laws). We have a triad nature; physical, mental, and spiritual, and we must arise to becoming spiritual.

This is the schoolhouse and we are spread through degrees of maturity; as you advance from level to level, it is the growth of maturity and application which invokes its results that you move onward. Those who have a greater capacity are those who having met the curriculum of the various levels before, have only become greater in their ability to draw from their own inner resources. As you do this your capacity to perceive things increases, since your mind increases. You must take what you have in hand and not everyone begins at the same state, some have a natural capacity for things, by reason of the genes passed down from life to life, but everyone must work the laws in order to achieve greater capacity. the short answer is simply; the more you do something the more you gain a capacity to do it.

I'm a complicated person. Personally, "capability" is most often a matter of allowing simpleness.

Soft-hearted honesty.

Being present and being available. Being there and being out of the way.

Like some oceanographer once said of the Gulf Stream: "There is a river in the ocean." When I get soft-heartedly honest, I am apt to experience a movement, an unfolding, a river of "true" that I look to let have me, soak me, move me and move in me.

Perfecting capability;

When the student is ready, the teacher appears.

For me, 'capable' was literally presented to me by a person who's abstract lessons contained everything to do with being,..... 'brought down to earth'

Now, I had aspects that of course brought this all to the forefront. But I will say this, No excuses. No slaggering, No backing up or out. Only In. It wasn't allowed, and of course the agreement was struck.

'What are you capable of?'

'A great deal....'

'THEN SHOW ME'

Right out of my head, I went. And straight into experience. I had to SHOW up. Not just say it, but actually be the knowing that I was capable of.

We have to show up with what we know, what we feel, what we think, what we do. What we are...

From the inside, we move it out into life.

Showing up capable, is perfecting it.

What was it about me? I don't know - I think I always have been. I remember as a child watching dust float across my vision - standing still and following it, trying not to move my eyes. I thought everybody knew. I spent many years upset that what seemed commonplace to me seemed inexplicable to others. Once I let go of my sadness of the distance between human potential and human reality I became able to live into my potential. Does capacity grow? It is different than water on the planet that ebbs and flows with the freezing - It it exponential.

Many Gnostics I know believe the propaganda that was created to destroy the Gnostic movement. The lie is that only certain people would be given certain key information and this Knowledge is how we're saved. The evil here is that Gnostics are then viewed as elitist. The truth of knowing is in the experience, like the biblical man knowing his wife. What man “Knows” his wife? Clearly it refers to something else. The Gnostic Gnosis is similar in the affect that it’s spirituality by experience not by initiation as insinuated.

I said all that so I could answer your question about capacity. I’ve owned a dog before. The dog was completely loyal and very much loved me. He didn’t have to be literate or talented to “know” I loved him. I also owned a cat whom I loved just as much as the dog but this cat didn’t trust anyone and stayed away when it could and didn’t “know” I loved him. Our capacity is our ability to open ourselves to the love of God, our ability to love people, and our ability to love ourselves.

Capable = having capacity, exactly. What gives you capacity? Isn't it a certain emptying? There has to be emptiness first in order for there to be capacity, almost by definition. A truck that is loaded with junk had to be emptied before it can have capacity to take on something worthwhile. Bad analogy?

Peace to you.
