I work at a Mexican Restaurant. I'm the only american guy there, but I'm treated as the token white guy. I speak pretty good Spanish, and I applied for the job to learn it, so I'm getting better everyday. There are still a lot of things I don't understand. For one, there's this one guy who always says this phrase to me, and everyone starts to laugh, but I don't know what it means! I ask everyone, and they just shake their head and laugh. What does this phrase mean??
It sounds like: Hola! Tepesta la cola?
What does it mean?

He's doing a Spanish language play on words with you, to make fun of you. You wrote "tepesta" but you meeant: "Te apesta". Also, see how "hola" (hello/hi)" rhymes with "cola" (it means an animal's tail and a butt/aass in a human, using dirty language.
He means: Hi/Hello, does your tail/aass/bbutt smell?
Which of course is not funny at all in English, it actually sounds stupid, but believe me, what he tells you in Spanish sounds funny THE FIRST TIME only. If he tells you that every day or very frequently, he must be a slow-witted guy or a guy with very little creativity to joke around, at best, same as his Hispanic colleagues, if they still laugh at that over and over.
If you think you have the guts to put that idiotic clown down, you may tell him this, after he tells you his lame-aass joke for the for the umpteenth time:
"Hola, no tengo cola, pero la tuya huele bien mal, como la de un animal".
The boring English translation would be: Hi, I don't have a tail, but yours smells too bad, like that of an animal"
Or simply tell him:
Hola, ¡ya cámbiale de canción! O qué, ¿Se te acabó la imaginación?
The boring English translation would be: Hi, Change the story already! Or what, are you out of wits?
Many Mexicans act like fools when they feel sheltered by other guys of the same kind. You can either ignore the guy, say what I told you and see what happens, or just tell him: "Very funny". Do you know any other jokes? It's boring to hear the same thing every day. Is that all you got? Come on, suprise me!
