Not very, no more than a strep infection. Scarlett fever is when a strep (streptococcus aureus) infection in the throat spreads systemically through the body. At any given time strep is in the mucous membranes, just as staph is on the skin. So why does the infection develop in a few but not in most? Different immune systems Consider having your child's immunoglobulin levels checked. You may find that they are quite low. Autoimmune disorders occur when the body attacks itself like with allergies. Scarlett fever is very rare now except seen alot in the immunocompromised population. My son's immune system was adversely affected by vaccines and chronic ear infections. He did have scarlet fever twice, kawasaki disease and rheumatic fever. We did see an infectious disease doc.
