I'm 23 with a college degree, & my baby nephew threw up on me & I cleaned it off & changed my shirt, & my former foster sister said, "How are you ever gonna have kids? You shouldn't eve have kids at all!"

I suffer Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder & they know that. So just because I have OCD & have to clean everything, does that make me not fit to have kids or is she being judgmental?

she sounds a bit judgmental!! i wouldn't worry about what she has to say. anyone who would want to walk around with throw up on them is off their rocker. you did nothing wrong! I'm sure you will make a great mom one day. ur kids will be clean and meticulously taken care of.... and there's no problem with that!

Ignore the comment. Just ignore it.

Not too many people would let a baby barf on them and just sit in it - they'd clean it off and change when they could (some people it would be ASAP and for busy moms - it might take a little bit..LOL).

I have high anxiety with a smidge of OCD. One of my closest friends is VERY OCD and has 4 boys. And she's one of the best mothers I know. Yes, everything is color-coded, but it works for them. They are a happy and healthy family.

Ignore it. She was probably doing the "I can do something that you could NEVER do" thing which makes her feel powerful.

Take care!

Oh wow. She's being totally judge mental, in my opinion. In fact, it may be handy to be OCD because you will be reducing the risk of spreading germs by keeping things clean. BTW, if your nephew is really young, say 6 wks or under, your sister may be experiencing a slight touch of post-partum, which can lead to people being a little mean to others. I would let her hormones cool off (I have a 17mnth old and could not be around people until he was three months because I was awful to them) and then see if she's still judgemental.

That sounds like she was just being plain mean to me! I would have done the same thing. I can't see why having OCD would stop you from having kids unless it's so severe that the child would be neglected in some way. If you feel ready & capable of having children then I'm sure that you are!

Don't listen to her...that's just crazy talk! Who wants to walk around with baby spit-up on them...I would clean it up & change too. That I think would make you a good mother...if you want to have things clean & tidy when there is a baby present...not the other way around! The OCD will not stop you from being a good mom...PERIOD!

OF course you can have children if you want to. You can learn to manage your OCDs. However, you may change your mind about what "clean" is once your house is taken over by little ones. For example, toys are NOT a sign of a dirty home. I've had children and have many grandchildren and still if I'm thrown up on, I will change my shirt.

there is no reason to say that to you. I would do the same thing if I was thrown up on. Having children is a difficult job but I am sure that even with OCD you can do it. Your child will always be taken care of and you never know it might help with the disorder as well. I know it did for me.

My sister had her son 4 months ago and that's when I found out she had ocd. It doesn't bother me and I respect the fact that she is. If a person has OCD, the people around them should respect them enough to accept them the way they are. I have to either wash my hands or sanitize them in front of my sister. You'll be a wonderful parent. Don't worry. Everything will be fine.

Your OCD had nothing to do with changing! It's called being clean and not smelling like puke!!! Many parents have OCD. Don't use it as an excuse not to have children. Some people just don't think before they speak.

If I was holding a baby, and it barfed on me... not only would I change my shirt, but I'd send the dry-cleaning bill to the parents and take the kid and hand it over and say, "Take it, now." NO kid better barf on me. Not on my clothes.

She is being judgmental... she doesn't know how you'd be as a mother; no one knows that. Not even you know that. No one will know how someone will be as a parent until they have a kid.

But if I had to bet, I'd bet you'd be a great mom. :-)
