That is the purpose. Figuring it out and living it. Even if you do not figure it out, you will still live it; Your purpose is different than everyone Else's, b/c you MAKE your own purpose.

What? Expecting the actual meaning? You have to figure that out on your own... and believe me, you won't by just siting on the computer.

The purpose in life is what you have chosen to experience, life for everyone is a life they personally have chosen, you are the soul creator of you own life not God or something, just you, all of mankind will come to realize one day that it is he that controls his own destiny, It is mans own intelligence that can change his vision and reality of the world he lives in, because it was all predetermined before he came, life in its self is simply an expirence, an expirence you chose to have.

A real purpose of life answers the question of "why was I put on this earth" or "what am I meant to do with my life". Real purpose requires a God. Here's what atheist Bertram Russell said about purpose:

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

So, without God there can be no real purpose to life, however, through various psychological techniques we can give ourselves the feeling/illusion of having a purpose. Answerer 5 who said, "Your purpose is different than everyone Else's, b/c you MAKE your own purpose.", or similar things, really mean that you can make for yourself the illusion of having a purpose.

The primary psychological trick is as follows: Do something worthy of praise such as volunteering to mentor inner city youth. Now give yourself praise and imagine others giving you praise. Now tell yourself that mentoring inner city youth is what you were put on earth to do. Your mind will automatically connect praise with self worth and self worth with purpose. Presto, the illusion of a purposeful life.

I see that a number of answerers refer to evolution, e.g. "to live", "to die", "to survive", "to reproduce", etc. But evolution is a mindless natural process just as weather, for example, is a mindless natural process. And evolution can no more grant purpose to us than a rainstorm can grant purpose to a rain drop.

I prefer to seek God and therefore real purpose even though I am not at all sure that He even exists.

There is no "purpose". Your parents F****D and now your here. Choose your own purpose. You are born, you live, then you die. Just like a rat, a dog, a bug, and a germ. It's not really as complicated as people want it to be.

The purpose of life, to be pleasing to God. The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. God created us. We are the apple of his eye, his beloved creation. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

Cats are the purpose of life.

We are merely bacterial beings in the land of a strange poo created by the Great Cat Master. Cats are his miniatures and our saviours. Thou who does not care and love one will be damned for all eternity.
