I've only really had 1 experience with my cat since I adopted her, that she really, truly knew I was upset:
Kikimo is strictly an indoor cat, & eventhough I'll occasionally carry her outside onto the porch so she can look around & smell the outdoors, she does get uncomfortable being out of the house & tries to run back inside after a few minutes. I also know all of her hiding/sleeping places throughout the house. Well, one afternoon I came home around the 4th of July & couldn't find her anywhere. I searched the house up & down for at least 1/2 an hour, pleading for her to come to me. Then I began to panic, & searched the perimeter of my fenced-in yard, thinking somehow she may've got outside, trying to escape (she's deathly afraid of fireworks, & the neighbors did them day & nite)... Finally, I came back in & just broke down crying my eyes out on the stairs. Only then did she show herself! She heard or sensed that I was upset & came running, put her paws on my shoulders to hug me, rubbed her face on mine & licked away my tears.
Soon after, I realized (only when quickly following her after a very loud firework) that her "safe place" when there are loud booms is behind the microwave on the kitchen counter....I didn't even think she could fit back there! So now, I at least know where to find her if she's terrified.

Sounds to me like your depressed. I advice getting with a good counselor and psychiatrist. As an adult, you are very set in your ways and beliefs. Sometimes therapy can help you discover things about yourself you wouldn't otherwise. If what you've been doing this long isn't working, time to change it. A professional will best advise you for your situation. Friends don't want to be bothered with repetitive problems. It's frustrating when one complains and self loathes but doesn't make an honest effort at changing. I hope your not an adult that is against therapy...if so I don't have anything else to offer. Best wishes to you...follow this and I promise things will get better....

My cat Jackie would always know when I was sick. I'd stay home sick from school and lay in my parents' bed all day and she'd curl up right next to me and keep me company all day long. If I was in a bad mood, she'd come and jump on my lap, the arm of my chair, or my shoulders and paw at me to get my attention. If I pushed her off or ignored her after w hile she'd be all "alright no more Ms. Nice Cat and bite my elbows hard as if to say "Hey! Quit being such a crab!". It always made me feel better. We've never had a cat like her since.

Cats are very sentient creatures and are very perceptive of the feelings and emotions of other animals and people, especially their owners. Whenever I felt sad or upset, my cats would come up to me and cuddle against me and have a strong look of concern and curiosity on their faces. I can remember last year after coming home from watching the World Trade Center movie where I was extremely choked up with emotion, my cats were especially cuddly and affectionate and had a very open eyed and curious stare on their face as they both struggled to cuddle up with me as much as possible.

Yes definitely. When I'm feeling down or mad my cat usually comes and sits on me and starts purring which helps a lot. Or I'll just start to play with her and it makes me feel way better. I love my cat!!

Definitely! The first thing I used to do when I got home from work was lay down next to my cat and put my cheek on his fur and listen to him purr and feel him breathe. After a few minutes, I felt so much better. He was a wonderful companion.

Once, I was in a very bad arguement with my mom and I was extremely upset. I was sitting on the floor and crying my eyes out when my cat, Snuggles, jumped up in my lap and started purring. I know this doesn't sound that extraordinary but you have to know my cat. Snuggles does not live up to her name. She hates to be picked up and petted and will actually run away from you when you try to touch her. So when she actually WILLINGLY jumped in my lap and started PURRING, I was elated. She never did it again (probably because I haven't cried like that in a while lol). It was the most touching moment I ever had with her.

I have 3 cats. The second oldest, Jimmy is mine mainly, he doesn't like anyone else really, and if I ever cry, even if he is in another part of the house he comes running and leaps onto me and does the face rubbing thing, then just wont leave me alone all day, lays his head onto mine and purrs and puts his paw on my face. It's super cute and always comforts me. It's also just cute how calm and cuddly they are and how they sleep on your head at night and stuff.

My cat Sandy dosen't really know if I'm sad or not, but when she comes and sits with me just because I'm there, I start feeling better when she sort of lays down and starts purring like crazy, weather I'm feeling bad or not. I love it when she sits with me!

My old cat, had had him since I was 4, had to put him to sleep when he was 19... Used to ALWAYS know how to make me feel better. It was like he truly understood me. He would come give me headbutts and do patty paws, lay on me and just let me hold him and cry. He was very patient :)
