I'm sorry. I must have missed something. I was under the impression that HUMANS wrote the Bible, not God. It is God's word. But God didn't write it.

The question is far from irrelevant. Let's say I write a law book that provides the rules and legal regulations of a society for a certain period of time. And let's say that book survives. Obviously, the social situation will differ hundreds or thousands of years from now.
It has nothing to do with stupidity or it being a "good" book. It has everything to do with the validity of the context to current social situations. The U.S. Constitution is constantly under fire as being outdated, and it was only written a couple hundred years ago. Why is the Bible or any other religious text not under fire for the same criticism by those who criticize the U.S. Constitution?

I see we are at an impasse.
Nearly everyone here says an ancient book is relevant if it is divinely inspired. Yet no one seems to acknowledge that the men who wrote the Bible were STILL products of their time.
Many passages from the Bible indicate that cultural practices between now ad then are vastly different. And Christians acknowledge that some of those elements are no longer relevant. Yet no one applies that same logic to the rest of the Bible.

Yes! Only as long as you denounce science, women, homosexuality, sex, masturbation, life, fun, & thought. Oh oh, and don't forget to add in some plaguges and mass killings for added laughs!

The human experience is the same as it was 2000 and 3000+ years ago. The language, culture, and technology make surprisingly little difference. We all go thru the same trials and struggles as people in ancient times. It is all part of being human. In addition to all this, the Bible is inspired of GOD. One way that we can see this to be true is that the Bible is ALWAYS the #1 best seller EVERY year. Self-help books and other books go out of style in a few years. But the Bible has always out-sold ever other book. This has been true since the invention of the printing press. If the "best sellers" list were accurate, the Bible would be #1. If you don't believe me, then please do the research and see how many Bibles are sold world-wide (in all of the many translations) vs the next best seller. What you will find is that the Bible is always #1. That would not be so if it were obsolete.

The question is irrelevant!
If you write a stupid book it shall be stupid from the very beginning to the end of time.
If you write a good book (fiction, novel) it shall be a still a good book even after thousands of years, such as Homer's Iliad.
If you write a scientific book whose assumptions and theories prove to be wrong after any period of time it still does not make it irrelevant but only wrong! Its relevance would be the contribution to the general development of human thought.
God bless you...

The bible is inspired by god, so they wrote what God called them to write about !! And yes if you write a book and it is inspired by GOD then it will Last Forever !! They have tryed to destroy the bible and burn them all but they can not destroy it !! It is Gods word and can not be destroyed from all the earth !! No one can stop it , it will always exist!! The bible tells you what all you need to know for now and if god wants you to know more he would tell you or show you ! you can question all you want to but you will never know the truth until you believe on him !

Maybe. even some writings that have nothing to do with religion we are still reading today, such as the Code of Hammurabi, the rossetta stone, egyptian hyrgoglyhpics, the Iliad and the Odyssey.........
it just depends on what you write.
And yes, I know that wasn't the point of your question.... but I wasn't going to go there LOL

Only if you wrote it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit....which is the way the Bible was written...Why do you think it is still around and still the best selling book of all times..because God has his hand on his word....

If you wrote a book today, it would likely be irrelevant. Never mind thousands of years ago.

To you, it would be relevant. But the test comes when everyone else thinks it is relevant. God's word is the only one I know that meets that criteria. No other writings come close. Reason? It's what God said it is -- his word.
