Definitely it is. It can cause a lifetime of damage and obsession with ones appearance and can lead to eating disorders. People should be accepted for who they are and if there is a problem loving instruction on the proper foods /quanities to eat and why it's necessary to be moderate and balanced will be something that child can take with them for the rest of there life in a positive way. Also the good example a parent sets before them is sometimes more beneficial than the instruction.

Not only is it mean, It's very emotionally and verbally abusive. A parent who say's those kinds of things is full of self hate. I dont know how old you are, but it really does'nt matter you are a child of GOD and your parent should be encouraging you to exercise and eat right not putting you down about the weight. Criticism only adds more weight or causes other self destructive behavior. GOD IS WATCHING HOW YOU ARE BEING TREATED AND GOD DONT LIKE UGLY. Find and activity that gets you moving and do it ignore the mean and hateful comments take the weight off for your own self.

wow, that is so cruel. it is degrating and it will crush one's self-esteem. if you are a teen, it is especially difficult to have high self-esteem in this day and age. society is so into being so skinny you can see the bones. i think you should love yourself no matter what. you need to tell them how it makes you feel, if they won't listen, please seek help from your guidance counselor or youth pastor, if religious. i am so sorry for your pain. they should be worried more about your health and well-being. i have struggled for many years with my weight and self-esteem because of being told something for so long, i believed i was ugly and fat and no good. it really is destructive to do that to someone. good luck and i hope things get better.

Yes and terribly damaging. My mother did that to me and I am 60 pounds over weight now. Get plenty of exercise and you should be fine, especially if you're young.
