You need a gun license to carry a weapon. All they do is require you to go to a 1 day class and then 3-6 months of background check, then register the gun and thats it. I don't know about the shotgun but a pistol yes. I live in Houston and I did this to carry a gun, the class is alright, the waiting period is forever though.

Most will miss the point here. What you asked is can you carry a gun, not can you carry a concealed weapon.
Where I lived in MO you saw people carry pistols on their belt. Not in town usually, although I have seen it.
With the country so screwed up the way it is now, I would be a little skiddish about carrying a pistol in the open.
Better to get the concealed carry and keep it hidden now.
If some scumbag saw you with a pistol on your belt, I bet he would steer clear of you!

Holster is by far the better choice. It keeps the gun where you put it. Numerous people, including a certain football player, have accidentally shot themselves fidgeting with an un-holstered gun that was slipping around. And, if you're like the rest of us, you'll wind up with 8 or 9 different carry rigs, till you find the one that works best for you.

You're talking about "open carry". I don't believe that is legal in Texas.
