As a Great Dane owner I can honestly say they are very comfortable on a couch. They are often referred to as couch potato's. They love nothing more than relaxing on a couch especially with you.
Too funny, loved the pic.

Yes, I have seen dogs do this before. My German Shorthair Pointer will sit on my lap and a friend of mine years ago had a Visicla[sp?} who did the same thing. What a cool dog!

I had a doberman who would get in the bed on command. Even if we were in the other end of the house, she'd run back there and hop up.
I also had her trained to drop whatever she had in her mouth. DROP IT! Plop. This came in handy when she got into some chicken bones.
Another doberman that a girlfriend had knew the names of all of his toys. He had ten or so. When he wanted something, he would come to you and snort. You would say all of the things he possibly would want. When you said what he wanted, he would snort and turn around.
"What do you want?"
"Outside?"
"Dinner?"
"Water?"
"Rope?"
*snort*
"OK. Let's check your water bowl."

That's so cute!! I've never seen a dog that sits like that, mine is too small. I wonder if that's comfortable for him.

My German Wirehaired Pointer loves to sit like that, but he is too small to sit on a sofa like that. He sits on cushions, his dog bed.
There is even a pony that sits like that. He his called Patches.
Watch this video, he even goes to bed in a real bed!
