I'm high risk for breast cancer as my sister had it 4 years ago. I don't have a lump in the breast but above the breast in the chest area I'm sore to touch_muscle area. Last time I saw a surgeon about a cyst in the breast__he said if it hurts_don't worry_it's not cancer.

I know some people have had cancer in the chest wall__what were your symptons ?

Technically, pain is not a sign of breast cancer, but that is not always true. It could be in your chest wall. What about intracystic cancer? Don't just assume. If you notice anything different about your breast, see a doctor. You need to at least have an ultrasound on the area on your chest wall. Have your annual mammograms. Don't wait for a lump. You can catch cancer before that. Good luck to you.

Common symptoms of breast cancer include:

# A change in how the breast or nipple feels

* A lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm area

* Nipple tenderness

# A change in how the breast or nipple looks

* A change in the size or shape of the breast

* A nipple turned inward into the breast

* The skin of the breast, areola, or nipple may be scaly, red, or swollen. It may have ridges or pitting so that it looks like the skin of an orange.

# Nipple discharge (fluid)

Early breast cancer usually does not cause pain. Still, a woman should see her health care provider about breast pain or any other symptom that does not go away. Most often, these symptoms are not due to cancer. Other health problems may also cause them. Any woman with these symptoms should tell her doctor so that problems can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible.

Dont rely too much on others symptoms. Different people can have different symptoms for breast cancer.

1. Most important: examine your breasts for lumps and bumps every month.
2. Important: Get mammogram every year if you are more than 40, or starting 10 years before your sister had cancer, which ever is earlier.
3.Get your breasts examined atleast once a year by a good internist or Ob-Gyn.
4.If you are fat, loose weight. Breast cancer is more common in fat people.
5. DOnt drink too much alcohol, it increases chances of breast cancer.
6. If possible, avoid hormones. Remember, likn between oral contraceptivesa and breast cancer is not very strong. Risk increases, longer you take the hormone.

DO above and dont worry too much.

I have a sister and mother who had breast cancer and have been tested and have the gene linking me to the genetic breast cancer.

I developed a lump in my breast and it was tendert. Even my Dr thought it was a cyst because of this.

It wasn't the geneticly linked breast cancer, however it was cancer .

If in doubt, get it checked!!!

I wouldn't take any chances. It is better to get a mammogram now than be sorry later. It just might be a sore muscle, but for your peace of mind get it done.
