Breeders usually take better care of hamster then a petstore would.

Pet store hamsters are usually sick, stressed, and come from mills where they are not properly cared for.

They are also not used to people, and may bite more.

The best place to get a hamster is a shelter...that way you are saving a life.

If you get one from a breeder, make sure they are knowledgeable about the kind of hamsters they breed, let you see the breeding facilities, and offer a health guarentee. Don't just buy from someone who put two hamsters in the same cage and don't know what they are doing. This is just as bad as buying from a pet store.

Well, this is a very good question! The breeders tend to have healthier hamster, since the pet stores get their hamsters from "hamster mills" just like "puppy mills." The breeder's hamsters tend to be A LOT healthier then the pet store hamsters end up being. I know, this isn't the best example, but, I hope that this helps! Thanks, and good luck!,

yea. breeders are more experienced, and they know how to handle hamsters better. Pet shops dont really care about the welfare of the hamsters and does nt give personal care. whereas, a breeder gives more TLC to the hamsters, therefore the hamsters there are generally healthier and happier.

A pet from a good breeder will usually be much healthier, less stressed& better socialized than one from a pet shop. You an also get *much* more information on your pet as an individual from a breeder, who knows each animal personally.
If there is a small animal rescue near you, this is also a good place to adopt a pet.

Because when you get any animal from most petstores, be it hamsters, guinea pigs, dogs, etc, they are bred by mills. This means animals aren't always top of the line, and are also placed in horrid conditions with the sole purpose of breeding babies. Reputable breeders will not do this.

Because pet stores usually don't take great care of their hamsters very well, which is why I think it is nice to get a hamster from the pet store, you are basically saving it!
