I just got a new MacBook and I decided to try out Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. It then told me I only have 30 days to use it for free. I thought it came with the programs! I need these programs for school! Will I really have to pay hundreds of dollars to use them?

It is common for computers to come with trialware that times out. As a student, you can likely find a student version of Office - try out a college bookstore near you. Those often have a steep discount and only cost around $100. Not sure if OpenOffice functions on a Mac, but that is free and might be worth a look if you can't swing the $100 or so.

Of course not. You have to pay around USD $300.00 for it. Microsoft is commercial/proprietary software: you'd have to pay as if you own a business to use their software! Some Microsoft trial periods are 30 days, some are 60 days.

My Sony laptop comes with Microsoft Office for 60 day trial period. I just deleted the damn software altogether and installed OpenOffice, which is free, meaning you don't have to pay a cent! I don't have the freaking time do download all these MS problems and headaches! So, I did the most logical: Delete the problem once and for all.

yup...it's not free. Check out http://www.openoffice.org - it's an opensource project (donated from Sun Microsystems) as a M$oft office replacement/lookalike.

There's a Mac version. Research and see if it'll fit you needs.

Enjoy!
