The jails and prisons are FILLED with innocent people, all of them "did nothing wrong". Sorry, but an officer of the law is not going to just walk up to someone and kick them in the leg for not doing anything. You were doing SOMETHING and that SOMETHING attracted or warranted police presence. Suck it up, make better decisions in the future and stop trying to find a way to get rich quick by blaming everyone else for your problems.
P.S. I don't appreciate the reference to being a single mom on welfare. My mom raised my brother and I through very tough times, but she always managed to obey the law.
Why don't you think about the example you are stting for your child? Blaming the police for you not "being able" to work due to an injury that you got by doing something wrong, then turning around and suggesting you want to sue the officer? Don't tell me you can't work, there are plenty of jobs out there where you can sit at a desk most of the day with that leg up. The community is already paying for your hospital bills, stop sticking us with your welfare collection also.

If you've been charged with a crime and you can't afford a lawyer, then you will be appointed a public defender if you ask for one. If it hasn't happened yet, then it will happen later.
If I were kicked in the leg by a police officer, then my response would vary depending on why he kicked me in the leg. If he kicked me because I committed a crime then was resisting arrest, then my response would probably be to go to jail. If he kicked me for no reason, I'd file a police report against him. If the local police didn't do anything, I'd contact the state police, or something like that.

1. What were you doing to get kicked?
2. What does being a single mother on welfare have to do with anything?
If you were charged, you must have been read your Miranda rights, did you hear the part about provide a lawyer for you? Ask for your public defender.

You need to call the Public Defender's office in your jurisdiction. You need to know what you were charged with. If you were charged that means you were arrested, you should have been read the Miranda rights asking if you cannot afford an attorney then one will be appointed for you. If you dont have a public defender contact Legal Aid and they can provide you with legal counsel

What does being a single mom on welfare have to do with any of this?
Did the officer just randomly kick you or what?
File a complaint with the Tucson PD.

Being single, being a mom, and being on welfare have nothing to do with your question. Why mention those facts? As for the balance of your statement, you have clearly left out a lot of details. In order for anyone to properly advise you, then you need to be more specific in describing the circumstances surrounding your situation.

"i have been charged but was not appointed a public defender"
Sounds like you committed a crime, didn't like you were being arrested, fought the law and the law won.
If I were you, I'd get off welfare, find a job, stop committing crimes, be friends with the po po and get a lawyer.
I'm indicting a defendant on thursday for "doing nothing wrong" when she bit into a cop's finger for the cop arresting her cousin. Her and 2 other Blood's members were trying to get him out of the police car, which in their idiot minds is "doing nothing wrong."
I can't wait to see this thug when she hears she's been indicted for Obstructing Governmental Administration, Restisting Arrest and felony Assault on a police officer.
For your case? Be happy you're not still behind bars. And alter your definition of "not doing something wrong" because you wouldn't be asking about it if you didn't.

So he just walked up to you and kicked you for no good reason? How does anybody kick somebody in the leg hard enough to require that kind of surgery? It sounds like you must have been involved in some kind of protest, or resisting arrest. Please provide details of the events so we can make a judgement and give advice.

Hope you can prove what you have just said in a public forum. If you cannot prove this , you can be liable for the statement you just made.
Best get an attorney if you feel you have been wronged. You named an individual and accused him of wrongdoing and even used his badge number. You better have an airtight case.
