My sister's boyfriend and his friend made 4 pipe bombs and blew them all up. They didn't think they'd get caught but the shock waves shattered the windows of houses within a 2 block radius. The cops tracked the hardware store purchases and arrested my sister's boyfriend last night. I just found out today when the cops called my sister to question her about him. The cops searched his house and also found weed in his room. He is in juvi right now and she is going down to see him.
my main question is... If he is found innocent of terrorist activities [since thats what pipe bombs are used for] what is the longest he can be held in jail??
I really don't want them to break up! He is a really good guy despite the rough spots and a not so great family history. He is going to break up with her because he doesn't think he is good enough!

You know, you don't have to be a jackk asss. Your answer is pointless to me. I don't know why you even bothered answering. So, in the future, don't take the effort to make a difficult situation even worse.

You guys just don't get it DO you?! He IS a great guy. Is it that difficult for you to beleive?.. That there actually are people out there greater than yourselves.
Just wait until shitt happens to you, then look who's laughing. I bet none of you know what its like to have a crack addict alcoholic mother who is 40 but who's body is 75 and who disappears on a regular basis to cheat on her husband who is left to pay off the credit card bills.
yeah, THEN see if you even come CLOSE to how great this guy is.

As far as I know, if he's a juvi and is tried in juvi court the max is usually until he's 18 and in some cases it can be 21; however, it depends on the lawyer he obtains. If he gets a good lawyer and he's never been in trouble before and he's as great as you claim he is his lawyer can get him released to his parents and maybe get him on probation, community service, and maybe he'll just have to pay for all the broken windows.

First .... they are extremely lucky no one was injured or killed! Second .....Where were his parents?
Third ..... Your sister is better off without this guy because he sounds like trouble with a capital T.
He will not be found innocent and I am willing to bet he could spend the remainder of his teenage years in Juvi..where he belongs.
I am sorry if he had a rough life and not so great of family but millions of people have it ten times worse than he has it and they don't go around buiding pipebombs for pete sake! That "i'm a troubled kid because i was abuse, had a rough life and hard spots in the road crap is nothing but a copout, an excuse to blame someone else and not take responsibility.
He is where he belongs. Guess who will have to pay to repair those windows???? his parents!

Yeah I do get it! I don't give a rats behind how NICE he is. When he chose and i stress CHOSE to build a pipebomb he lost his NICE and became down right STUPID.
Yes I know EXACTLY what is it like to have drug addicted alcoholic parents and family members..... I lived it! I was physically, emotionally and sexually abused by those that were supposed to protect me and make sure my life was important to them, more so than their drugs and booze.
I did NOT grow up and abuse my children, become an addict or boozer. I learned from watching them die, from watching them ruin their lives and I learned I would NEVER BE LIKE THEM!
Don't you even dare ASSUME you know diddly squat about life until you can recognize your sister is in MORTAL DANGER if she continues to to hang with this guy or ones like him. You may think he is not getting a fair shake here but he is getting exactly what he deserves.
Step off your high and mighty pedestle and join the real world.
Open your eyes. You can not honestly be that blinded.

Terrorist activities are specific crimes and are all federal.
I am not an attorney, but I highly doubt your BF could be convicted of terrorist activities. In CA, he could be charged with various crimes including malicious mischief, possession of bomb making materials, assault with a deadly weapon (if anyone was hurt). A ballpark figure on the maximum sentence would depend on his previous record. A first time offender charged as a juvenile can be held until they are 23 years old. In charged as an adult, my best guess would be 3-5 years with time off for good behavior.
Either way, tell him to buff up or he will be someone else's GF in the big house

Actions have consequences. This didn't just happen to him. He intentionally made bombs and then intentionally set them off. Other people suffered damages as a result. Thank goodness no one was injured, I hope. I also hope he is old enough to be charged as an adult and receives what he deserves. He may not be responsible for his mother's actions, but he is responsible for his own.
By the way, if this is a "good guy", I'd sure like to know what a bad guy does for entertainment.
Sorry, but no sympathy here. And I wonder how sympathetic you'd be if your sister had been nearby when the bombs went off.

He may or may not be a terrrorist but the cops will figure out if he has connections to terrorists. Pipe bombs have been used by people for various acts of violence, not just terrorism. The amount of time he spends and where he spends it is dependant upon what he is actually convicted of, not what he is charged with. If he is 17 or older he may be charged as an adult and again it depends on what he is convicted of as to where he will be sent.

thanks.......I was having a bad day and needed a laugh....Im sure everything will work out for your friend and I look forward to seeing the happy couple on a future episode of cops....
Well when a person does something like that.....puts innocent people at risk, willful breaks the law, thats a sign of irresponsibility.
If you like to blow stuff up for fun fine..........but do it in a safe place,NOT WITHIN TWO BLOCKS OF PEOPLES HOUSES, if you are not smart enough to figure that out you shouldn't be messing with explosives.....
How would you feel if someone had been hurt? How about the people who have TO PAY HARD EARNED MONEY TO REPLACE THOSE WINDOWS? is that GREAT guy going to pay for that? Grow up

Whatever happens to them in court is going to be a walk in the park, considering what could have happened. You should be more thankful. Too many kids have killed or maimed themselves with "improvised" explosives. A lot of the instructions you find on the Internet for assembling those damn things tend to be incomplete and leave out important safety precautions (such as oiling the cap threads to prevent the powder from accidentally sparking and setting the whole thing off in your hand when you screw it down).

if he isn't found guilty of 'terrorist activities' he probably will be found guilty of Malicious mischief or something of the sort. 2-5 years or less for good behavior and a lengthy probationary period, plus paying for damages. and this all depends on whether he's charged as the primary perpetrator or secondary AND if he's an adult (you didn't mention age) or may be tried as an adult
if he is found guilty of terrorist activities he'll be gone for much much longer
