I cannot stay awake without coffee but the acid from my GERD is killing me. Sometimes I have to go in at 1:00am with little notice.

There are brands of coffee out there that have some of the acidity neutralized. Mellow it down a bit with milk (a good pH buffer). Best thing is to see if you can tailor your sleep patterns to where you don't have to rely on so much caffeine to function. All too many of us do without adequate sleep, and arranging to sleep a little more might fix the problem. Also, see if you can arrange to be in bright light on your swing shifts. I've heard that bright lighting can be used to fool your diurnal clock.

You should see a gastroenterologist, they put me on protonix and librax, my gastro doctor also told me to put cinnamon on the top of the coffee grounds when you first put them in the coffee maker, the cinnamon stops the reflux plus it is loaded with antioxidents and keeps your blood sugar low. It works great for me hope it helps you to.
