You should take him to a vet and have bloodwork run. It may seem expensive at the time, but it's worth it to find out what is wrong with your dog. I work for a veterinarian and some clients called us one day because their 8 month old dog had started vomiting up yellow foam. We did some bloodwork on him and discovered that he had severe kidney failure. He died about 3 days later. You should find out what is wrong with him sooner rather than later.

It could be one of a couple of things. First and most serious is the possibility of one of the serious, puppy diseases such as Parvo. However, if your pup is a year old and has had all his shots up to date, it's unlikely to be the problem...still possible though. Parvo usually severe involves vomiting and diarrhea resulting in rapid dehydration. Blood in either the vomit or stool is a pretty strong indicator of parvo. It's also accompanied by a strong appearance of lethargy and that 'I feel awful' look. If you are at all worried that this is a possibility talk to your veterinarian immediately, time is of the essence with Parvo.
The second possibility is that your pup has gotten into something, or eaten something, he shouldn't. All dogs are tempted by garbage and forbidden objects, and depending on what it is they've eaten, they can feel pretty miserable for 24 - 48 hours or so. Best thing to do in that case is to withhold food for a day or so. That way, whatever it is that's upsetting him will work it's way out of his system. Be sure to make plenty of water available at all times though.
Thirdly, some dogs have a tendency to throw up a yellow type of foam which is kind of acid/bile that builds up in his stomach overnight. It's sort of like acid reflux. If he does this regularly, you can try to give him a biscuit or two last thing at night so that he doesn't have a totally empty tummy for 12 hours or so, it helps to prevent the build up of acid. Also talk to your vet, he may be able to suggest other things to help.
You can find information about common puppy illnesses and lots more at the website below.
Good luck!

He could just have an upset stomach,or he could have a sore throat. My Beagle did this when he was young. He would get tonsillitis and have to go on antibiotics. He would throw up and drool, and not eat.If your dog doesn't have any other symptoms, then I would just offer him ice cubes to lick tonight, and see if he will eat tomorrow. If not,you should call the vet to rule out a serious problem. Also, could he have gotten into anything, like rat poison or sugar - free gum ?Xylitol,a major ingredient in sugarless gum,is poison to dogs, and causes kidney failure.I know how curious beagles are,and that they will eat anything,so check to see if there is anything missing,or any wrappers or pieces of gum lying around.Good luck, and hope your pup is OK.

My dogs throw-up that yellow foamy stuff also. It's stomach acid. Let him go out in the yard and see if he eats some grass. They do that to induce vomiting when their stomachs are upset. If you are feeding him cheap dogfood, STOP! Our dogs were breaking-out with plaquey, black, itchy skin and were very lethargic. It was because of the cheap-o dogfood we got from WalMart. Feed him Beneful, our dogs love it and their skin instantly cleared-up.

A lot of things can cause a dog to throw up, but parvo is at the top of the list for very young dogs. Has he been vaccinated for parvo?
