You are looking at this backward. How much do you want to spend? How much can you afford at this time?
New Yorkers fall absolutely everywhere on the economic spectrum, from homeless folks who live on the street to Donald Trump. Similarly, you can live whatever lifestyle you want during your week here, buying as much or as little as you like. Even among people who like to shop while they're tourists, some are interested in Village thrift shops, some in Century 21, some in Bloomingdale's, some in designers I've never heard of I'm sure. Figure out what where your taste and price range lie, and then from there figure out where to shop.

About a few thousand.. that is if you wanna go shopping A LOT. Everything is expensive.. luckily, there is no tax for clothes and shoes under $110.
